I first went to Butlins in Skegness in March 1999 as it was a preview week a sort of a taster to show everyone how it had changed. i was very impressed and went back in feb 2000 and feb 2001. i choose to go at school half term because it is cheaper and the kids dont need to have time off school. i also book off he teletext because that is cheaper than the brochure although you have to wait till about 6 weeks before you go.
About my last Butlins experience, well i booked an economy self catering room for me and my 4 children and i will put the rest in paragraphs..
ACCOMMODATION Absolutely lovely, spacious and clean and although they were economy i found they were no different to my friends who was staying in studio (maybe a bit near the entertainment) although ours wasnt far away either.
ENTERTAINMENT Fantastic, while we was there there was a Britney Spears tribute an illusionist and loads more in the Centre Stage. There is also the Reds but i didnt go there due to a previous experience of losing one of my children..the room is too big for you to keep an eye on them.
EATING OUT We ate out at a different place every night. Tom Cobleigh which is a pub, a bit expensive and not a lot of choice. Burger King, Kids favourite they would have ate there every night. Pinewood Studios my favourite i had the sunday carvery where you could go and get your own meal. expensive again but worth it. The fairground was on and there is too much to mention you would have to try it yourself but i would recommend it to anyone. On the whole a fantastic family holiday with lots of entertainment, clean good sized accommodation. By the way they also do a loyalty scheme if you take so amny holidays in so many years you get a discount. I am a bronze member with 3 hols in 5 years so my next holiday i get 20% off and more if i book again.

What annoys me is when people who have never been to Skegness criticise it - we went there last year and it's really nice, it even got a good write up in the Lonely Planet guide to Britain.

A little more info would have been good, prices of food, beer, etc, but handy tip about booking online. Thanks.

Advantages: Great fun, lots to do, well themed, brilliant location, very atmospheric Disadvantages: Expensive on site, get fat from all the drinking and junk food.
