After recently coming back from Butlins Skegness, I thought I would write a review on the place. On arriving at Butlins the first thing you have to do it to find your check in desk to get your room keys. This is very easy if you have a desk number, unfortunately if you haven’t then expect a hour wait as you queue up to get the information from the service desk. However a quicker way around this I found out after waiting for an Hours is to go to the nearest check in desk and ask one of the Red Coats they will then jump the queue for you and tell you where to go (in the nice way).
Anyway the rooms are excellent, well-decorated, and tidy and if you are going self-catering they provide you with everything you need to cook your meals. There is a television
in the room, and our room had a very nice breakfast bar to which you can eat your meals on. The bedrooms are not luxury, however are ideal for you to sleep in at nighttime. The bathroom is clean, and compact and has a shower fitted at the back of the room, the rooms in general are adequate for all your needs and lets face it you will be spending very little time in your room because there is so much for you to do around the camp and around the villages nearby.
Now I bet you want to know what there is in entertainment around the camp, well where can I start, for the kids there is a huge swimming pool with lots of shoots etc, this is free to use. There is the Noddy fun park for the smaller kids which is also free and keeps the under 5’s happy, my little boy loved this and we found it hard to get him away from the place as it was so much fun.
For the older kids and Adults there is the Megazone which is a is great fun but very tiring (if you are not fit), this involves running around maze shooting laser guns at the opposition and blowing up bases to score the most points. The game lasts for 20 minutes which seems like 2 hours, and it will wear not only the adults out, but the kids as well. After the game you are given a score card and told which team won and who was the top scorer, also on the card they tell you who shot you and who you shot and on what position on the body you were shot.
There is also a cinema, go karting, an adventure playground for the kids, a fun fair and amusements to keep you entertained all day. Also in the pavilion there are shows going on regularly during the day, the shows are not only for kids but also for the older generation, they have circus acts performing above the crowd below, and lets say you have not time to get bored while you are there.
There is also shows going on all day in the halls about site, these shows are exceptional, and cover everybody’s taste, we went to see the 80’s tribute show and I was very impressed, they had one after another of the stars from the 80’s performing, from Adam Ant, Kylie Minogue to Boy George. They also have theme weekends running like the 70’s and 60’s weekends, which they bring back, the original stars to perform live these goes on for a weekend and the shows are awesome. But not every week is a theme week so if this isn’t your style then you can go on a week, which isn’t.
Outside the camp there are shopping centres in Skegness, and Fantasy Island at Ingermills, which has some tremendous rides including two large roller coasters. On Sunday there is a Market which sells virtually every from CD, Playstation games to clothes and Towels. There are also a row on amusement arcades and plenty of gift shops and greasy spoon cafes to eat in.
Now for the down side at Bultins itself the only downside is the price of the food in the fast food takeaways around the site, the prices are at least twice the price of the same shops in the town centre, and if you have a family of four you can expect to be paying at least £20 per meal. Also the drink in the pubs and entertainment centres are very steep. Outside the camp I wouldn’t recommend eating in any of the restaurants which offer roast dinners, these basically come out of a tin and are disgusting and are not worth the money.Overall Bultins is a great place for a family holiday and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Advantages: Great fun, lots to do, well themed, brilliant location, very atmospheric Disadvantages: Expensive on site, get fat from all the drinking and junk food.
