I used to go to Butlins almost every year when I was a little girl back in the 80's and loved it.
Needing a cheap holiday with my boyfriend I decided we could go away in this country and I happened to see an advert for Butlins and booked it.
We went to the Minehead resort in Oct 03 and stayed in half board Silver chalet.
My mum warned us "it'll be cold", "it's shabby" but she was wrong!
The accomodation was small but clean and nice and bright. We didn't mind the smallness as there were only two of us and we only needed a bed and a shower really!
The half board food I have to say was absolutely vile. I wouldn't let pigs eat this as slops, I lost 9lb the week we stayed there! But the decor in the restaurant was nice and there was a lot of choice it just wasnt edible.
The facilities were really good, lots of things to do in the day despite the cold weather and it being term time--the swimming pool was probably the best bit. I would say avoid the slot machines inside the skyline pavillion as they eat right into your money (lol)
At night there was plenty to see and do (shows, cinema) and there was only one show which was rubbish (Zodiac show) and really boring. I would advise that the drinks are quite pricey. You'd think that you were in a high class bar with the prices they charge!
The red coats were pretty good, although I think the kids saw more of them than any adults did! The resort itself was clean and easy to find your way round.
We paid £150 for the two of us and we thought wegot a real bargain. I'd recommend this to any young couples on a budget who dont mind kids (I love kids)

Review of Butlins
Advantages: Great fun, lots to do, well themed, brilliant location, very atmospheric Disadvantages: Expensive on site, get fat from all the drinking and junk food.
