I went to Butlins in Bognor Regis with my mum and my younger brother (by three years) when I was about fourteen then when I was sixteen. My mum was really excited because we do not usually do anything as family so we were all looking forward to it. We spent about two hours on a coach then when we got there we spent about another two hours looking for the "stuff to do". The arrangement of the "activities" looked fun - lots of colours and shapes, but we were not that sure what exactly we were meant to do.
There were lots of children of five and under running around and using the mini-fun fair indoors and eating ice cream, and I am under the impression that there were shows to watch but we felt a bit old for the whole thing. None of us are accomplished swimmers and so the idea of shooting through some long tube into a pool of screaming seven year-olds did not really appeal to us, so the pool was not really an option.
We could not afford to eat in any of the restaurants so we sat on an over-populated bench in rather close proximity to a family who could not seem to control their children's vocal chords and ate our slighlty warm sandwiches.
My brother and i were happy to find the funfair and spent most of the day riding the only two GOOD rides there over and over again. My mum was too scared to go on anything apart from the merri-go-round (and when on it her face was a picture of blind panic, her knuckles white as she clung to the horse for dear life...)
She was only too happy to discover the slot machines, where she prceeded to waste the remains of her rather depleted wallet on 2p machines.
It was nice to spend time with the family but I have to advise that you check the activites on offer BEFORE you go there otherwise you might be disapointed...

Advantages: Great fun, lots to do, well themed, brilliant location, very atmospheric Disadvantages: Expensive on site, get fat from all the drinking and junk food.
