Whilst I was taking exterior photographs, on this beautiful sunny, autumnal day, my wife was asking the gardener if it would be possible to see the inside of the church. We were directed into the hall, where there seemed to be a daily coffee morning taking place - more of a "drop-in" really. We were offered coffee and cake by a lovely elderly lady, who as it turned out, obviously loved the church and knew a lot about it.

Advantages: Fun, fascinating and altogether fabulous Disadvantages: Chaotic and confusing for the first time visitor
...allowances in your budget. Coming here was not cheap for me as I lived on the far side of town - but it was definitely my favourite way to spend the day.
My final recommendation is not somewhere to visit at all but something to buy - a valuable resource for residents and visitors alike.

The Athens News is a weekly English newspaper published in English. It comes out on Thursdays and along with local and international news contains listings, a classified section and articles about living and working in Athens. Always worth a read (if only for the column Church on Sunday) it will keep you informed and entertained and can provide an valuable insight into a sometimes highly confusing city.

Advantages: Lovely Little Island Disadvantages: Poor Beaches
...that this temple along with the Parthenon and the temple of Poseidon create a near perfect equilateral triangle but I have yet to check a map to confirm this! The views from the temple are amazing and like most of the monuments in Athens, was free on a Sunday (it costs about 4€ during the week which may be a bit much for what it is).
The church of St Nectarios is quite new and in typical Greek fashion, despite being started about 5yrs ago, is not yet fully finished! It is dedicated to Necatrios whose body lays in rest in the church, which has been built in a Byzantine manor. It apparently received some criticism but it quite impressive and you may be fascinated by the dedication of the Greek Orthodox Christians who will kiss every picture of a saint as well as the crypt itself.
Most of the rest of the island is quite sporadic with small villages...
