Look Ma! I'm on top of the world

Advantages: Breath Taking views value for money
Disadvantages: If you suffer with vertigo or fear of hights you may have reservations

...was a visit to the CN Tower. It was the last week of August, Toronto was in the height of its tourist season, a week before Labour Day and during the Canadian Exhibition celebrations and I was on a once in a life time holiday.

From virtually every point of the greater metropolitan area of downtown Toronto and dominating a striking skyline of gleaming high-rise skyscrapers, condos and apartment buildings is Canada's wonder of the modern ...
...more popularly known as the CN Tower: the world's tallest freestanding tower raises 185-stories, 1,815 feet above sea level. Many cities quarrel and people would argue that Canadian National Tower is not the tallest building asserting that the twin Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are the highest buildings, and that the CN tower is exactly that: a tower. However, the Canadian's will persevere with their claim after all, the tower was designated ... more

The CN Tower

Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: None

...about my experience in the CN tower, when I visited Toronto Canada. I had visited a number of big attraction sights in Toronto, but this was one of the one’s that a enjoyed extremely. It was fun, exciting, bold and out of this world, it was a plus that I wasn’t afraid of heights, so for anyone who does suffer from vertigo, it might be a challenge to visit this place. I had been to Toronto once before, however I was only 8 and thus didn’t have the ...
...wait. Information and the CN Tower: The CN tower started its construction in 1975, once the construction was complete it stood at a mammoth 1,815.4 ft) tall, making it the tallest free standing building in the world, until in 2007, when the still under construction Burj Dubai exceeded its record. The construction and planning of the tower took many years to do; it created over 15,000 jobs in construction, sanitation, and cleanup, helping to create ...

Advantages: Beautiful view, revolving restaurant
Disadvantages: Not for people in a hurry

...make sure you visit the CN Tower. The views from the top of Toronto's highest structure will make you fall in love with one of the world's most beautiful cities. From up here you can see all of downtown Toronto as well as the beauty of Lake Ontario and Toronto Islands. ♣ The tower ♣ The CN Tower was built in 1976 by Canadian National (CN), in an effort to demonstrate Canada’s strong industry. At 533 metres (or 1,815 feet), the CN Tower ...

How high???!!!

Advantages: High, great view, must see
Disadvantages: Expensive, queues, too high for some!

...attraction in Toronto then the CN Tower would probably come top of the list. It is an icon of the city and a massive tourist attraction. So is it worth all the hype? HISTORY: The CN Tower or Canadian National Tower is described as the 'Canadian Wonder of the World' and with good reason. The Tower was built in 1976 by Canadian National and was originally designed to be used for transmitting TV and radio signals. It was never intended to be a tourist ...
...T-shirst, posters, postcards, magnets, model CN Towers and much much more. Needless to say this was all fairly pricey and most of it could be bought in other shops for a lot less money. You can also pick up the photo that they took of you right at the beginning (again for an astronomical price - I think around $20-25). As I was on my own in the picture I wasn't thinking about buying it anyway but at that price there was no way I would have bought ...

Have you CN the tower?

Advantages: Great views
Disadvantages: Vertigo anyone?

...write a review about the CN Tower (Canadian National is what CN stands for) which is the defining feature of the Toronto skyline. Set next to Lake Ontario the CN Tower is an iconic Canadian image and a building for the record books. Finished in 1975 the CN Tower is the World's Tallest Free Standing Structure at just over 553 metres. According to its website (http://www.cntower.ca/) the CN Tower also holds the following records: * World's highest ...
...month for visitors to the CN Tower and so it opens at 9am. I am fairly certain that it was 10am when we were there in December. There are a variety of packages depending on the amount of time you want to spend at the tower. The basic visit to the Lookout and Glass floor is $26.99 for adults and $14.99 for children. I would really suggest that you get most of the CN Tower experience just from that. However, there are also options that include the ...

The CN Tower. It's actually rather tall.

Advantages: it's a world record holder, views are great ...
Disadvantages: ...only on a clear day, expensive, queues can be horrendous in summer

...at the base of the CN Tower and look up (you cannot see the top of the tower when you do this, as the observation deck obstructs your view). And it’s no surprise it’s so bloody big, as this is in fact the World’s largest free-standing structure, at an incredible 553m high (I know, it’s etched on my souvenir mug, which was bought just last month!) Seen from far away this tower looks impossibly thin, but once you reach the base of it, you realise ...
...confidence that it will stay upright. Nevertheless, on windy days the SkyPod observation deck does sway noticeably, though on the calm clear day I visited no movement was noticeable. Upon entering the tower, you queue up, get your ticket, have your bags carefully searched (reassuring!) and then go to the exhibition area, where you can read up on how the tower was constructed, memorize the many facts and figures associated with the tower, or like ...

Toronto sightseeing

Advantages: Underground shopping malls.
Disadvantages: Homeless people

I can't think of anything I didn't like about my stay in Toronto. I stood on the glass floor in the CN Tower, which was thrilling; went to see a performance of The Phantom of the Opera at a beautiful theatre, which was enjoyable; but the highlight of my trip was the helicopter ride I took over the Niagara Falls. The view of the falls, was even more incredible from the air than it was from the ground. When I went in March, everything was frozen so a trip in The Maid of the Mist was not possible, but the helicopter trip certainly made up for this. Being on the Canadian side and seeing the Horseshoe Falls close too was wonderful, far better I believe than the American falls. Thinking about it, I believe the only downside to the trip were the homeless people sleeping in the middle of the pavements over the gratings which exuded warm air ...

Thermal Pants And Ear Muffs In August

Advantages: clean, unique, loads to see and do,great people
Disadvantages: a hell of a long way!

Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and is immaculate, clean ,bright and cosmopolitan and small enough to explore on foot. New Zealand is not exactly a weekend break away and "By eck" the journey is long especially if you go the Pacific route ,however, the rewards to be found in Auckland are worth the trauma. I went on a short stopover of six nights and found more than enough to keep me excitable without leaving the city. Hotels,Food and drink are high quality and medium priced, the roast lamb is tremendous and portions are huge! Must see's include a trip up the "Tower" Im sure they nicked it from Toronto as it's a dead ringer for the CN Tower. A short ferry ride across the harbour takes you to the village of Devonport. Devonport is a trip back in time, so unspoilt and untacky. There are fantastic views across the bay ...
