Advantages: the buzz in the city, the party atmosphere, extent of celebrations Disadvantages: not much fun if you don't like music!!
...Liverpool is a wonderful city any day of the year, but if there's one weekend where it comes alive more than any other, it would have to be this one. Set around the August Bank Holiday, the Mathew Streetfestival attracts tens of thousands of people, both from the city and from all around the world. Mathew Street is, of course, home to the Cavern Club, birthplace of the Beatles, but the festival is by no means confined to this one street. It takes over half the city centre. When I went down there last year, half of the roads were closed off and there were tens of stages, with live music being played all around the city. The city has a real buzz about it, as it's like the city turns into one big free music festival. Advantages: Great music, in a relaxing atmosphere Disadvantages: try and prebook
...If Jazz is your thing, then like me a Jazz festival is a must see event. In Edinburgh you can combine the pleasure of Jazz, a beautiful city, and of course Scottish hospitality. The Edinburgh Festival consists of 70 events and covers a period of 10 days, this year the event runs from July 28th to August the 6th. All music tastes are catered for from New Orleans to the avant garde. One of our favourite events is a trip to the Spiegeltent. For only £5.00, a ticket can be bought for this attraction situated on Princes Street. We relaxed listening to the music and enjoyed a few light and not so light refreshments, and if your lucky you may even mix with the stars of the festival, both relaxing and occasionally jamming. Open until 11.00pm, try and pre book tickets and you will be rewarded with a night to remember....

Advantages: Great choice of acts and performances for the full three weeks Disadvantages: Accomodation around the city centre fills quickly - book early
...The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is and has been the best I have seen each year. The mix of people and cultures are outstanding. Every hour of your time, be it weekend break or the full three weeks is JAM packed with Comedy, Art, Dance, Theatre, Musicals Street Entertainment and student culture. The comedy acts each year feature some of the biggets names in the National circuit with a lot of Student clubs and Internation acts too. A wide range of musical acts and theatre from aroiund the country and around the world can also be seen. Walk though the parks and there will be stalls, stages and street artists a plenty to catch your eye. The people of Edinburgh are always warm and welcoming as are the local pubs and clubs. If you visit Edinburgh for one week or weekend alone this year, then make it for the FRINGE, you wont regret it. -- book...
