Bargain Bragadin in Venice

Advantages: Well located and an excellent price
Disadvantages: Very hard to find and lack of facilities

We've been enjoying taking advantage of some very cheap budget flights recently and my girlfriend found us a couple of cheap seats to Venice (okay, Treviso, but it's only a bus ride away!) Having never been to Venice and having no idea of where to stay I needed to find a cheap hotel and found this place on Hotels.com/Expedia for around £45 a night. That's a cheap price as far as I'm concerned so I went ahead and booked, using a voucher for the booking site brought the cost down to £40 a night, a price I was certainly happy with. Hotel Background The hotel was opened in late 2008 and is located in the area of Castello. The building is a former palace, dating from 1362, but you won't find a lot of ancient features. They like to point out that Casanova has stayed at the palace in the past. The name 'Bragadin' is from the man who ...

Venice the city of Sighs!

Advantages: Absolutely breath taking views around every corner.
Disadvantages: Very expensive packed during the day with day trippers.

of Venice from the top. Bovolo by the way means snail. The story goes that the person who owned the palace asked the builder to build him a staircase after the palace was practically finished. He went away and left the builder to it. Instead of wrecking the place to put in the staircase the builder decided to build the staircase on the outside of the building resulting in this magnificent wonder. You can have a look at a picture of it at the following website; http://www.destination360.com/europe/italy/scala-contarini-del-bovolo Despite the over priced Gondoliers plying their trade many of them were idle I suspect because of their pricing. They were hanging around the bridges waiting for tourists to take a ride. I tend to think of them as being a bit too touristy and a half hour trip on one can cost approximately 100 Euros. I think ...

Benalmadena the Costa del Sol

Advantages: Friendly town with lots to do, a lovely holiday.
Disadvantages: If you steer clear of the 'English Bars' there are none

COSTA DEL SOL Benalmadea Costa, I'm afraid I was always a bit of a 'travel snob' regarding the Costa del Sol. I envisaged the types of scene in TV's Benadorm, a type of Blackpool with sun. As members of a vacation club ( it was then Sunterra now Diamon Resorts) we had the opportunity for a weeks break for relatively few points at the Sahara Sunset in Benalmadea Costa, as we could get Easy Jet airfairs to Malaga for a very low price we decided to try it. We have been three times more since then - so needless to say I was not disappointed. Benalmadena is only 15 kilometers from Malaga Airport, car hire is easily obtainable but it is only 25 euros for a taxi from the airport and there are plenty of excursions and good public transport available in the resort. It is set on the Costa del Sol between ...
