Advantages: The Spanish weather in the summer, I presume Disadvantages: Where do I start?
For the first time we decided to take a holiday in the middle of February. We've heard Spain can be OK in the winter, so we gave it a go.
We stayed in La Mata, just outside Torrevieja. As we arrived from Alicante airport (about 20 minutes away) The rain did not stop pouring down, which creates a problem in Spain as the roads do not appear to drain as in the UK. This was to be the story for much of the week, it summed up the holiday really.
The first day or two were spent around La Mata, which appeared to have a lovely beach, and our apartment was nice, although there was a distinct lack of bars, restaurants etc, apart from a very nice Irish bar on the front, so we ended up eating indoors and cooking ourselves. Our entertainment for the week was only to be DVDs which could be bought in the village.

A Mexican friend recommended Los Cabos when I asked him what parts of Mexico I should see. I acually stayed a little down the coast and "commuted" into Cabo San Lucas.
Those who wish to see something of Mexican culture definitely shouldn't come here. The place is basically a port for rich (mainly American) boat owners. The streets are filled with (expensive) chain-style family restaurants and souvenir shops. Not to mention tour operators hawking their products. To get to a beach, you either have to take a water taxi, or drive down the coast. That's right, no beaches in the town itself. Just the marina.
One day I did take a water taxi (relatively expensive) to the beach, where the surf was pretty rough and the water cold. It was a pretty beach, though and the taxi included a mini tour (in Spanish). I also went diving around Pelican ...

My Parents moved to Spain around about 3 years ago, they live in Alicante. When we go visit we stay in Torrevieja.
Torrevieja is in Costa Blanca Southern Spain. Torrevieja is accessed from the main coast road - the N332
We normally land in Alicante, but this time our flights were changed and we were flying into Murcia airport.
When in the plane, looking out the window, it looks nice you are coming to land over the sea and onto the runway. Murcia airport is a former military base.
This airport I have to say is the smallest ive seen.
Torrevieja is about 25-30 minutes away from both Murcia and Alicante Airport.
My parents picked us up, Parking is a nightmare at the Murica airport, and they don't seem to have any logic about parking spaces, its more park where you want.
With a 30 minute drive ahead of us to Torrevieja ...
