A Mexican friend recommended Los Cabos when I asked him what parts of Mexico I should see. I acually stayed a little down the coast and "commuted" into Cabo San Lucas. Those who wish to see something of Mexican culture definitely shouldn't come here. The place is basically a port for rich (mainly American) boat owners. The streets are filled with (expensive) chain-style family restaurants and souvenir shops. Not to mention tour operators hawking their products. To get to a beach, you either have to take a water taxi, or drive down the coast. That's right, no beaches in the town itself. Just the marina. One day I did take a water taxi (relatively expensive) to the beach, where the surf was pretty rough and the water cold. It was a pretty beach, though and the taxi included a mini tour (in Spanish). I also went diving around Pelican rock. I had my own guide for the regular price. It was good diving. I went at the wrong time of year to see whales, but I did see plenty of pelicans!
