Advantages: Very rich cake in the end result Disadvantages: Expensive, need a lot of effort into it.
*Willie's Supreme Venezuelan Black, Rio Caribe Superior 100% pure Cacao Chocolate I will mention the chocolate itself and mention things from the documentary where important.
-- The chocolatier --
Willie came into the public eye after a fly-on-the-wall documentary entailing his efforts to start his chocolate business on pure cacao chocolate and had one belief: Chocolate is an ingredient, nothing more. He moved to Venezulelan to live the lovely lifestyle and invested all his family money into the cacao business; where he planted more than 50,000 criollo cacao trees. He is the first person in the UK since the Cadbury family to grow, cultivate, import and produce their own chocolate.
He now lives just outside of Tiverton with his wife and kids. Why I mention his town is because he essentially lives up the road from my place ...
Advantages: ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS PRODUCT Disadvantages: NOT EASY TO GET ONE'S HANDS ON IT
bar of Swiss Delice Supreme Harmonie Cafe & Cacao (Lait).
This is posh-nosh. And unsurprisingly, mr-zeeman didn't pay for it. It was included in the "goodie bag" which was handed to each punter attending the recent London Fashion Week. I haven't noticed this particular confectionary being sold in KwikSave - nor indeed, in any of my other usual shopping haunts. It can be obtained from over 100 international airports though.
The light card packaging is svelte ... and at 9.5 x 18.5 x 0.8 cms the box is well-proportioned. The cream background provides an ideal backdrop for the brown motifs of three coffee beans and two cocoa nibs, along with a square of the chocolate - seemingly balanced at a precarious angle. The wrapper's gold caligraphy glimmers in the light; and the boast "premium chocolate since 1887 from Switzerland's no.1 ...
Advantages: Excellent price, works well with nuts and seeds, easy to use Disadvantages: Does not grind as finely as Krups, and not as durable
I use a grinder daily for grinding nuts, flaxseeds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, goji berries, cacao nibs, oats, etc. I bought the Wahl ZX595 James Martin for £ 11.99 at Christmas 2008, whilst my 2-year-old Krups F203 was being repaired. I didn?t really expect much for the price; I just needed something cheap to tide me over.
However, I was pleasantly surprised: although it doesn?t grind quite as finely as the Krups (as noticed with flaxseed), it actually copes better with the larger/harder nuts such as brazils and almonds. It is also easy to use and clean, and looks nice.
Once my Krups was repaired, I used them both, depending on what I wanted to grind and how finely ground I needed it.
After a year of use, the silver piece on the lid has come off, and it's now a little fiddlier to get it in the right position to grind ...
