---------------------------------------------- MY TOWN ----------------------------------
Caceres is the town where I live. It is a small town but it has got a lot of things, museums and churches to visit, cinemas and leisure centres to have fun, gardens and nice streets to walk, shops to buy from clothes to presents....
SITUATION AND SOME INFORMATION
I will start by the beginning. Caceres is situated in Extremadura, in the south-west of Spain. It has got nearly 100.000 inhabitants. It limits with Salamanca and Avila in the north, Toledo in the east, Badajoz in the south and Portugal in the west. It is a medium-small town, you can go walking to the centre if you live in the outskirts of the city, it takes about half an hour aproximately. Caceres city is divided in two parts: the old part built between the XII and XVI centuries and the new part built a bit later.
THE OLD PART
It is next to the town square, just go up the stairs and you will be in the "arco de la estrella" (star arch) which is one of the four old doors where people entered to the town. Now, we go stright on and we find the sta Maria's cathedral. If you want an advice, visit the cathedral, it is free and it is really nice. In the left way of the cathedral you can find the Carvajal's palace, a really nice place where you can see the whole old part in a little stoned model. You can also visit there a room which tells you the culture and life of the town people and villages ones. We now go right and we should be in front of a lot of stairs tha we have to go up. That's George's square, George was a hero who killed a big dragon and saved a princess. We can find San Francisco's church and in the left we find a little door that hides a lovely garden where the fallens in love went to meet each other. Up the endless stairs we can see a really big square where we can find San Mateo's church, and a well known museum "Las Veletas" where we can see an arabian cistern which contains many coins that people throw asking for a wish. Apart from these museums, church, squares and more, it's highly recomended to visit the Sun house, the Golfines' palace, the Storks tower and Sande's tower (to eat)
NEW PART
The new part is like another town. But there are some places who everyone knows. For example the main square, where especially visitors, can have a drink or have lunch in the restaurants while watching the old part's view. You can also visit the street that is next to the main square, it's Pintores' street something like painters's street, there, you can go shopping. There are lots of clothes shops like bershka, mango, torero...also there are two or three cake shop and some pubs. If you want to go for a walk just go to the town centre: Canovas. It is like a boulevard, a very big garden wtih many bechs and little stands to buy some sweets.
There is a very big park called Prince's park where people go for a walk, or to go with their dogs, children to play, young people to walk in love.....
GASTRONOMY
The gastronomy in my town is not very rich but we have jamon,chorizo,morcilla.....casar's cheese.... We usually have for lunch some soup, pasta,meat,fish.....the typical in Spain is having lunch from 2 o'clock to half past 3. And dinner from 9 o' clock to 11 o'clock and we have something like ham, soup or meat.
PEOPLE
People in Caceres are, in general, outgoing, calm, protective, friendly....I don't know what to say more.
