Time out in The Brecon Beacons

Advantages: Fresh air, Steam Train, Nature
Disadvantages: Hard Seats

The Brecon Mountain Railway A narrow Gauge line That runs beside the Taff Fechan Reservoir in Wales. The Station building at Pant is built into the side of the hill at the starting point of this railway. It is built mainly on the track bed of the old Brecon & Merthyr Railway. After this was closed, like so many others in the 60's the land was sold to local farmers. When in 1972 an engineer was looking for a site to run renovated narrow gauge engines he decided upon this area. He was unable to obtain the site of the original Pant Station so a new one with workshops was built slightly further down the hill. The station opens at 09.30am and the first train is at 11.00am The season is from end March to End of October. On some days in peak season the final daily train is at 05.00pm rather than at 04.00pm Some days from April to ...

The Brecon Hotel, Rotherham

Advantages: Family Run, Friendly
Disadvantages: Quite Small

The Brecon Hotel in Rotherham was the choice of venue for my work's Christmas Party last Friday, 1st December 2006. We had left it a little late to get in anywhere and found that the Brecon was just about the only place that could accommodate our part of around 40 people. This was my first visit to this Hotel, although since it is located on one of the main routes just outside of Rotherham it is a place that I have passed many times. The Brecon is a well known Hotel locally. Established in 1963 it is a family run Hotel that prides itself on the reputation that it has built up over the years. It is a medium sized Hotel with 21 Rooms. All of which are en suite and have a colour TV, Radio and Tea and Coffee making facilities. I did not stay overnight at this Hotel so I cannot really comment on the quality of the rooms other than to ...

Review of The Brecon Hotel, Rotherham

Brecon Beacon of a Challenge

Advantages: Good price & excellent once assembled
Disadvantages: Assembley will probably make you swear

The Hedstrom Brecon Play Gym is available from Argos & comprises 2 swings and a glide in one frame priced at £58.99 which is a very reasonable price. The children love it & it is well used. The catalogue advises children aged 3-10 years. This is ambitious particularly as the swing rope must be shortened as the child grows. Once assembled it is a great feature for the garden. Assembly is trying to say the least. It is difficult to work out which sizes the nuts and bolts are & the manufacturer has left very little room to work with when fixing nuts & bolts. It needs anchoring in concrete & the system for doing so is not very easy. However once concreted it is very solid. ...
