With tables spilling on to a pretty square, the Café Central is open all day starting with chocolate and churros (spiral-shaped doughnuts), and then moving on moving on to tapas and traditional dishes later in the day.
Advantages: Good staff, proximity to transport links Disadvantages: Small (but perfectly formed)
...I was recently at Southampton for an interview (here's hoping!) and flew Glasgow to Southampton on a 'cheap' ticket.
The airport is quite small, only a few gates and the central seating area is next to the check-in gates (which makes it very draughty and cold in winter!). There is a small cafe and bar, WH Smiths newsagent, just the usual!
There is a car park (parking is paid for in the airport, oddly enough, and not at the car park itself) but as I had no car to use, I made use of the Southampton Parkway train station which is apparently the nearest rail link to any airport in the UK (useless trivia, but handy when you're freezing cold and in need of a heat!).
I found the staff at Southampton airport to be courteous and pleasant and the facilities on offer were adequate for an airport of this size.

Advantages: Proximity to Airport, Great Golf Course Disadvantages: May need an interim food offering between the informal cafe and the more formal restaurant

I normally do book direct, as I find the cancellation terms with a direct booking are more favourable than with an internet booking company. However on this occasion I did book and prepay with lastminute.com for the discounted rate of £76 (Room Only) including taxes. This certainly isn't a bargain rate as this converts to around €111 compared with a Web rack rate of €128 including tax, but nevertheless it was a reasonable rate for a Malaga hotel, particularly given its convenience to the airport.
Breakfast is an additional €11 per person, and there is no apparent discount on the rack rate whether you book this in advance or just take it on the day...

...Flown to Malaga now for a long time, the airport has grown in size and been improved drastically over the years. The Costa Del Sol has now got a trully impressive international airport on it's hands. Most U.K. airports now fly to Malaga. It's easy to get around the large airport. Car hire is available and can be booked on line with your flight details so that when you arive, some one is waiting with your car. When it comes to departure there are plenty of shops to spend your last few Pesetas, which must be spent by the end of December as they are no loger legal tender after that, with Spain joining the Euro. Malagacentral for good easy access to all of the Costa Del Sol.
The airport has plenty of shops to chose from. A very well stocked duty free-allthough I found that mainland Spain is still a lot cheaper than the airport...
