The Cafe Rouge chain runs all around the country, with one in most towns. The Cambridge restaurant is in a scenic location, not far from the River Cam, on Bridge Street. The decor inside is nice, and there is normally a good atmosphere. The French-style cuisine is normally cooked to a high standard, and there is a fairly wide choice on the menu.
Whilst some of the dishes can be slightly more pricey, they are fairly in line with similar chain restaurants, such as Bella Italia etc (around the £8-£10 mark for main meals). They also now offer Prix Fixe menus, where you can get 2 courses for £8.95 or 3 courses for £10.95, between 12pm and 5pm. On top of this, Cafe Rouge are now offering a set meal for £10.95, which includes 2 courses and a drink. For those wanting to save even more, Tesco Clubcard points can be converted into vouchers to use in Cafe Rouge.
Overall, the restaurant offers good food and fairly good value for money. Service is normally good, and the waiters I have seen have always been very helpful and friendly. Obviously, as part of a chain, the experience may not be quite as authentic as every 'French' restaurant, but you get what you pay for. A good place to eat out in Cambridge, and a perfect location to take a nice stroll around after by the river. Several bars are also very nearby for those wanting a quiet drink after their meal.
