The Tram Café. The Tram Café is situated in the far end of Wenceslas Square in the City of Prague. Wenceslas Square is one of the major tourist attractions in Prague and is marked on every map so finding this unusual café shouldn't be too hard, although we literally stumbled across it by accident on our walk home. The Trams which make up the Tram Café were are trams that were once in use within the City of Prague. Tram number 11 used to operate at the Vaclavska Square from the beginning of the 20th century up until 1974. The motor tram car number 2077 was made in 1927 in Prague and was first used within the City. Later, it was given to the Public Transport Museum. In 2000, it was brought back to Prague and was carefully renovated. The trams are placed side by side with a little walkway connecting the two. In one tram there are seating areas, and in the other tram there is a bar with more seating areas and also the toilets.
Menu The café is only fairly small so we were surprised to see that, considering its size, it still had quite a varied menu. The café sells various drinks including wines, beer, international spirits such as baileys and Malibu and soft drinks such as coke and sprite. A selection of milkshakes including vanilla and blueberry flavour were also on offer. They serve hot drinks including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and hot fruit juices. My girlfriend had hot Pear Juice which to be honest sounded awful to me. I tried it and to my surprise, it was actually very nice. The food menu was fairly small and consisted of various flavour pizzas and desserts such as apple pie and honey cake. Most dishes cost about 120 krony which is about £2 for a pizza and about £1 for a dessert so the prices were more than reasonable.
Inside The Trams The cold air outside is lost as you walk through the curtain door entrance and it was nice and warm inside. There are about a dozen tables inside, ranging from a small 2 person tables, to a larger 4 person table. The Tram Café is so quaint and I have to say it's the one place we stopped for a drink in Prague that was really memorable just because it was so unique. I noticed the insides of the trams were mostly made from wood panelling and this really made the café feel cosy when you were sat inside. The tables were made from glass and underneath the table top were loads of cutting from newspapers with stories about the trams which gave the café a traditional feeling too. The service was very, the waiter was really friendly and our drinks were served really quickly. The next tram care holds the toilets and the bar/ kitchen area. This again, was quaint and similar to that of the other tram. The entrance to the Tram Café is not suitable for anyone in a wheelchair. In the summer months they have an outdoor seating area adjacent to the Trams. But as we visited in December, the seating wasn't out. Summary I would 100% recommend this little place. It was so quaint and unique and it was interesting to read about the history of the tram systems in Prague (which are fantastic by the way) while we enjoyed our drinks. All in all, our little visit to the Tram café was very enjoyable and was a very nice stop on our walk around Prague.
