The Cain Valley Hotel is a 2 star hotel situated in the town centre of Llanfyllin, it is a 15 minutes drive away from the picturesque Lake Vyrnwy, renowned for its bird attraction. Also within a 15 minute drivinge distance is Pistyll Rhayader, one of the seven wonders of Wales, it is the highest Waterfall in Great Britain. Llanfyllin really is a great place to base yourself if you want to explore Wales, and Powys and Chirk Caste are both nearby. Y Dolydd musical festival is also an attraction and it takes place at the end of June and accomodation may be avaiable for that weekend. The hotel has its own Car Park so this is not a problem and the hotel is relatively easy to find.

There are 13 En-Suite bedrooms whch are made very cosy by the period features including the 16th century Jacobean staircase. Most of the rooms have beams in them which are very rustic and provide a homely feel to the building. The price is £69 per night based on two sharing B&B, but you can go or three night DBB for £225 per couple. Dogs are also welcome but they do ask that they do not sleep on the beds. All the rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and have an analogue television in them. The majority of the rooms have lovely views into the hills, and you really feel at home. All of the rooms have now been done up to a very high standard and have lovely and clean En Suite bathrooms. They are all decorated in a white paint which amakes it feel very clean, and it really works with the beams and the traditional feel. The room was always very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable.

There are 2 bars, the lounge and the public bar, the public is more of a drinkers part whereas the majority of food is served in the lounge and the restaurant with two different menus.In the lounge it has more of a traditioonal feel with snacks and the specials board with things like Steak and ale Pie, and Lasagne, they also offer a vegetarian option which is a medditeranean risotto. The restaurant has more of a "dining" atmosphere and serve more fo an upmarket type of food including Local Lamb in a delightful redcurrant sauce. In my opinion the food was excellent and was of a really good amount and quality. The hotel also offered very fine ale options varying from common lager to local bitter which were of extremely good quality, all priced very competitivley.

The staff were always very courteous and friendly and were a pleasure to be served by. The manager and his wife were always available and easy to contact, it comes across as a real family run hotel. There are about 10 different staff but very few different waitresses and you are able to build up a relationship with them quite easily.

The town itself is a very picturesque area. Llanfyllin has a very rich and long history, extending back to the Princes and Lords of Powys. One of which granted Llanfyllin a charter conferring borough status. Llanfyllin's religious history stretches even further than this. This small town has seen violence and rioting during the Tudor and Stuart period, when supporters of rival local dignitaries struggled for ownership of the town. During the 1600s, it saw conflict between Royalist and Parliamentarian. In the last 100 years, Llanfyllin has experienced the rise of Nonconformity, the struggle with the Established Church and it's supporters in the local gentry, the spread of Liberalism among business people, and the efforts of professionals to gain more educational advantages. Llanfyllin certainly has a fascinating past for such a small town. There are also many golf courses around the area within a 10-15 minute driving distance.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Cain Valley Hotel, the food was delicious and the choice of ale was extremely wide. The bedrooms were always cleaned to the highest standard and the beds were extremely comfortable. It was really nice to experience the local atmosphere by meeting the locals in the lounge bar for a drink. I think that the Cain Valley Hotel is of great quality and I hope to stay again in the not so distant future.
