I had the unprecedented luxury of staying overnight in a hotel without my husband and (more importantly) the kids, when I travelled up to Edinburgh to attend a friend's wedding reception. I ended up booking a single room at the CairnHotel through lastminute.com. I paid £44 for a single room for one night. I have to admit that I didn't check whether it would have been any cheaper to make the booking directly with the hotel, rather than through an intermediary website.

Perfect Location for myself as I arrived into Newcastle by Train and your turn right at the train station and your there , no taxi needed.

The hotel reception area is very nice , with this amazing light ficture which is so sparkly. The rception staff are very friendlly aswel. It looks very nice for a 3 star hotel , i would give it 4 easy!

Nice room , spacious and they gave me free water and a biscuit , nice touch. There was a en -suite bathroom and a view. There was also room service option.

It enjoys a humid, tropical climate with temperatures rarely dropping below 20 degrees C and has a wet season (Nov to March when monsoons and cyclones can be expected) and a dry season April to November. However, it is in the tropics and it can rain at any time and averages 80 inches of rain pa. We arrived there via a flight from Ayers Rock (if thinking of visiting Cairns from the UK, as part of a trip to another part of Oz, check with the travel agent as it is common for free internal flights to be thrown into the mix).
