The best place to stay in Cairns
Review of Gilligans Backpackers Hotel, Cairns by clover123

Advantages: Extremely clean, fantastic facilities and brilliant location
Disadvantages: Check in not until 2pm.

...that I could not fault Gilligans and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. If you have just started your trip in Australia they have a helpful tour desk with lots of offers so they can help plan your journey. The bar area is a great place to meet new people and had a great chilled atmosphere. This is definitely a place for young backpackers and like-minded people. However I would not recommend families to stay here as it gets quite loud in the ... Read review

The Lakes Cairns
Review of The Lakes, Cairns by ciaowales

Advantages: Great Facilities, good value for money
Disadvantages: Not close to town centre

We stayed 4 nights at the Lakes in a 2 bedroom self-catering appartment at about £70pn. The Lakes is a purpose build resort and spa with a number of apartment blocks We had a very spacious apartment with all mod cons and as we had been travelling a while the washing machine came in very useful. The resort has its own shop and a selection of different restaurants. You also had the option of takeaways from the restaurants delivered to your door or ...
...a BBQ around one of the three swimming pools. Kids clubs and a spa providing a selection of treatments added extra options as well as going on day trips from the resort. It takes about 30-45 minutes to walk into town but at certain times there is a courtesy bus just don't expect a great service on weekends or bank holidays. Very good value for money with helpful and friendly staff. The fact that the majority of appartments are owned by Australians ... Read review

JJ's: Inspiring Jolly Jejunators
Review of JJ's Backpackers, Cairns by zoe_page

Advantages: Cheap, clean, secure
Disadvantages: Small, murky pool, the 'menu'

...I chose to stay at JJ's Backpackers because it was cheaper than cheap, and the 15 minute walk into town would lead to me having to get some exercise. I spent a total of £73.57 in your English money and for that I got 6 nights, dinner, bed and breakfast. True story. JJ's offers a free airport pickup, but you'll need a mobile phone and their number because the airport's courtesy phone doesn't work, and their advert doesn't list their number. I called ...
...as a night's DBB at JJ's but were entirely worth it). Dinner was a choice from a set menu at a pub in town, where upgrades were also available for a small fee. I never sampled this, but others who did said it was nothing to write home about, though was free and therefore worth considering for many travellers. Me, I don't really do budgets or inedible food, so didn't bother. Luckily for me, eating in Cairns was not particularly expensive. Very near ... Read review
