i went to cairo not really knowing what to expect, i knew i'd see the pyramids and a few mummies but didnt know anything about the life there. If your planning a holiday with mates cairo is not much of a place to go, if your looking for night life and etc then sharm el sheik is your place in egypt. but if your planning a family holiday or just a peaceful reflecting time by yourself then egypt is a good place to go.
i went to cairo for 7 days, but most do, 1 week in cairo and 1 week in luxor. i found 7 days in cairo was enough and within that time i travelled to alexandria and spent the day there. (Alexandria is a 5 hour drive away) --HOTEL--
in cairo i stayed in the Hilton Hotel which i know sounds very posh and expensive but you will be very suprised with the prices. i stayed there for a whole week with 11 other members of my family. they only charged us £1000 for 4 double rooms for 7 days which i think was an absolute bargin. the price included breakfast too which was an all you can eat buffet. the hotel was beautiful and lovely and i totally reccomend it!!
--PLACES TO GO-- you have to go see the PYRAMIDS if you go to cairo they are wonderful, if you imagine how they were made sooooo many years ago with no machinery at all. i suggest you go to see the night show at the Pyramids which could be slightly boring if you already know the history behind the pyrimaids but if not its a very factual and great show to watch with lights and so on.... when you go during the day make sure you take a camel ride around the pyramids (the locals will take you round and give you a bit of a history lesson too)...but make sure they dont over charge you you should pay something like 20 egyptian pounds and thats including tip and everything.(they may try and scam you by saying a totally different price at the end of the journey but just be persistent, hand them the money you first agreed on and walk away).
one great thing if your staying at the Hilton Hotel is that the egyptian museam is just outside the hotel. this museem is full of artifacts and so on if you like that sort of thing its great you should go..
--SHOPPING--
the shopping there is brillaint theres not much designer stuff and not much for women either but you can get lovely ornaments and presents from there vveerryy cheap to.. make sure that you barter with the shop keepers and market stalls as if they see that you are a tourist they will triple the price. learn some egyptian phrases before you go. especially ones on how to lower prices so serious bartering can be done.(trust me its fun)
theres a great market place which can be vvveeerryy hectic and not for light shoppers. the market place is called KHAN EL KALILIL this market place is an experience i will never forget. it was an extremely out of the ordinary shopping trip that i have never seen before...its a must, you have to go there..
There is soooo much to do in cairo and you will never get bored, my advice is to get up early afternoon and go to bed early morning...those are the best time to do things..
Theres a beautiful revolving restaurant on the top of a hotel in cairo which goes around whilst your eating and the veiw is breathtaking but they have a stict dress code and do not allow children under the age of 12 either and they are a bit snooty, but theres another one which is an older one and not so brillaint the food is not too bad but the place is a bit OLD and not so brilliant as the other one.this one is called the revolving tower.
--WARNINGS--
- dont drink the water - ignore the pervy guys they will offer you liek 500 camels for your hand in marriage but just ignore it - dont take the first price your offered anywhere ..always barter
if theres anything else you want to know about egypt just drop me a comment and i'll try and answer them for you.

Detailed review, enjoyed reading. Hope my boyfriend doesn't trade me for camels when we go there later this year.

Cairo relaxing?? You must have gone to a different place to the Cairo I went to. Found it very hectic dodging maniac drivers, street vendors etc. Pat.t
