We were only in Cairo for a short time (12 Hours) but the experience was mind boggling to say the least. You have to be there to appreciate the traffic and the lack of road rules. All the drivers in Egypt just drive, there is absolutely no attention paid to traffic lights, signs or lanes and believe it or not, peak hour traffic at 02h00 in the morning.
Cairo’s streets, I found were dirty and the city in general is polluted and definitely do not drink the water unless it comes from a sealed bottle. Be very careful of which restaurants you eat from, even the ones that look like they could be name brands, although we could not read most of the names.
There are lots of interesting shops and places to see if you just walk around the streets of Cairo. Ladies make sure you cover up and take a male with you if you do plan on walking around the streets of Cairo.
Things that you should definitely do while you are in Egypt:
Rent a traditional Egyptian taxi just for the experience – it’s and absolute blast.
Pyramids (make sure that you arrange this through your hotel, it’s by far the cheaper and safer option and you get to see more than you would with one of the local “tour guides”.)
The Egyptian market is not for everyone but if you enjoy bargaining and haggling for the best price, the market is for you, and unless you have a cast iron stomach don’t buy the food, you will regret it later on.
Visit the Egyptian museum and make sure that you actually pay the right people for the tickets and not one of the peddlers on the street, their tickets are cheaper but they are expired, when you finally realize this they are nowhere to be found and you have to buy more tickets from the ticket office. Also make use of the guided tours in the museum, it’s worth it and you get to learn more about the culture that just walking around aimlessly looking at artifacts.
As I said before we were only there for 12 hours and were passing through Cairo after finishing a live aboard diving trip that ended in Hurgada and although it may sound like we did not enjoy it very much I would go again tomorrow if I had the opportunity.

It's a rather dirty, smelly place....but your review would be more helpful if you described in a bit more detail what there is to see and do there. Lexy
