A day in Cairo
Advantages: It's an experience of a lifetime Disadvantages: It's dirty, noisy and polluted
We were only in Cairo for a short time (12 Hours) but the experience was mind boggling to say the least. You have to be there to appreciate the traffic and the lack of road rules. All the drivers in Egypt just drive, there is absolutely no attention paid to traffic lights, signs or lanes and believe it or not, peak hour traffic at 02h00 in the morning.
Cairo’s streets, I found were dirty and the city in general is polluted and definitely do not ... ...As I said before we were only there for 12 hours and were passing through Cairo after finishing a live aboard diving trip that ended in Hurgada and although it may sound like we did not enjoy it very much I would go again tomorrow if I had the opportunity. ...

Tour the Pyramids - hassle included free of charge
Advantages: Beautiful sights, rich culture, Disadvantages: Lots of hassle, pick pockets
...to go sight seeing to Cairo and in particular visit the Pyramids at the Giza plateau.
Ever since I was young I had wanted to see these great sights. So I thought - brilliant and jumped at the chance. I had been advised by other crew members to avoid taking large amounts of money and jewerelly as I may have become an attractive target for certain types of individuals.
The bus ride from Port Said to Cairo was 3 and a half hours, if your doing something ... ...a book or something to keep you entertained. The bus was modern and included a toilet and excellent air conditioning, which is a must as the temperature can raise very quickly.
We were warned on the bus by the local tour leader to avoid talking to any of the locals, the reason being the will try to sell you something and will sometimes not even take no for an answer. The tour group running this particular tour were good, as they also provided two ...

Do it - but do it Quickly
Advantages: Famous History Disadvantages: Heat, guns, poverty, filth and flies
...morning flight from Paphos to Cairo highlights including visits to the Pyramids, Sphinx, Lunch in a 5 star hotel, a visit to the famous museum with Tutankhamen's treasures, ending the day with a 2 hour cruise down the Nile, then a return flight to Paphos that same evening. The cost of the trip was around £250 including return flights and meals.
The Trip
The flight from Paphos to Cairo took about an hour. My first reaction to arriving at Cairo airport ... ...full of tourists on the Cairo trip. We were all split into groups upon arrival at Cairo Airport and had to wear coloured stickers depending on the coach group we had been allocated to. Not wanting to be exposed to Cairo we more or less ran to our coach, which for almost for the full day was to become our "safety bubble" There were around 30 people on our coach altogether. Upon boarding the ladies were given a rose by our Egyptian tour guide (mine ...

A city of extremes
Advantages: a mind blowing experience Disadvantages: boisterous, polluted and often hard work
...qualities of a city like Cairo within the confines of a short review? Well the answer is I can't, not to the degree that I would like, but if this brief snap shot gives you some idea of the glorious diversity of this wonderful city then that is a worthy enough goal. It is a city that sits with one foot in the modern cosmopolitan world and the other in a timeless past and the two seem to co-exist and merge in a truly remarkable way. It is heaving ... ...percentage of the countries population. Cairo is the largest population centre in the Middle East, as well as the largest in the whole of Africa, Egypt being a country that overlaps two cultural and geographical zones. It is the administrative centre of the country and along with Alexandria is the cornerstone of the economy, which is based around textiles, food and tobacco products, chemicals, plastics, metals, and automobiles as well as tourism. ...
