...I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Calasde Mallorca, with my family including 3 youngsters aged between 7 and 14. As this was the first family holiday for 5 years, and the first time the boys have flown, I wanted it to be special.
The travel agent was very helpful finding a holiday within our budget and with plenty for the children. So in June we found ourselves jetting out of Leeds aiport to Palma. The main problem with the outward journey was because it was a night flight, the children were up all day, all the night and cranky for the first day of the holiday.
The coach journey between Palma and Calasde Mallorca took just over an hour and a half, with the travel rep complaining all the time that she was tired!!! When we arrived, we were shown to the hotel reception and from there, to our rooms (two adjacent...

Advantages: Great Weather - Lots to do Disadvantages: None
...expect with the amount of coastline on Cala D'or. There is also lots to see, such as the fantastic Dragon Caves just a short drive away and the famous pirates show, which although is in Magalluf is quite easily accessible if you rent a car. I would recommend renting a car even just for a couple of days like we did when I went as it really adds to your Majorcan experience.
Also, because Mallorca is such a small island, you can quite easily travel to the other end of the island for just a day trip. There is great shopping in Palma, a vibrant nightlife in Magalluf and fantastic restaurans and scenery in Porta de Pollenca. Overall I would highly recommend Cala D'or as a holdiay destination for people of all ages. I enjoy it as a teenager, but also my parents and older siblings did aswell....

Advantages: All Inclusive Basis, Fairly Cheap, Good Weather. Disadvantages: Noisy, Ugly, Lots of Kids, Purpose Built Resort.
...of the sunshine!
** CalasDe Mallorca **
The resort we stayed in was called CalasDe Mallorca and is located on the east side of the island, just below the more famous and popular resort of Cala D'Or. It's about a 45 minute transfer directly from the airport and also the capital city Palma.
Our overall impression was that it was very much a purpose built tourism resort, the small centre consisted of about 4 supermarkets, 10 or so quieter bars, a handfull of restaurants and the usual tourist shops including a jewellers, multiple gift shops, leather shops, car hire and excursion outlets, etc. There is very little in the way of services for locals and to be honest, locals are rather rare in this resort - the majority of people working at the hotels appeared to come from towns and villages outside the resort. In total there's about 15 hotels...
