Much of the activity in Calas de Mallorca happens in the plaza area. Here is where you will find all the shops, restaurants, banks, and just about everything else you need. There are souvenir shops which are pretty good, although I wouldn't rate the clothing or the shoe shops highly.
Many of the bars an restaurants are situated on the lower floors with shops dotted in between and taking up the higher floor. The plaza itself is made up of two squares built on two floors with walkways connecting the upper levels as you stroll over the mini golf course.
Locals are friendly except when you're sitting in their restaurants feeding the many stray cats that loiter in the area. Food of many varieites are on offer from the traditional Spanish tapas to Indian to English. There's a great palatable experience waiting everyone.
The beach is amazing, there are several places for you to stop and rent a sunbed for the day and many beach side huts to grab refreshments from. On the way down to the beach you may like to stop at the two stores that stand alone and sell ecquisite jewellery and ornaments.
For a great night out without the kids, I would recommend Jupiter's or Tiffany's. The management of both are extremely friendly and the music is very up-to-date. For a more British clubbing experience similar to that experienced in the larger city, you may want to catch a taxi to the neighbouring town of Cala D'Or, especially the footie madmen among you as there are several bars that cater for such an audience and screen the English games whist the missus is having a boogie.
All in all this is a cheap holiday for all the family. If it is sun, sea and sangria you're after then you don't have to venture far. However should you want to branch out, there are many transport options available whether it be the local bus service, car/moped hire, taxi, buggies, you name it.
The only disadvantage point is that you are a couple of hours by bus from the capital where just about everything happens. Palma is one of the most beautiful, metropolitan cities in the world and should be seen if you get the chance. Find clothes for cheaper than you would in the UK at C&A, Morgan, H&M and similar fashion stores. You can see what your saving because the various prices for the European countries are shown.
So what are you waiting for, don't delay, book that trip to the sun today.
Advantages: Sun, sea sand, nie friendly people, quiet environment, everything is cheap Disadvantages: It rained for 3 days ; everything was so cheap I had to buy another suitcase to bring everything home!
I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Calas de Mallorca, with my family including 3 youngsters aged between 7 and 14. As this was the first family holiday for 5 years, and the first time the boys have flown, I wanted it to be special.
The travel agent was very helpful finding a holiday within our budget and with plenty for the children. So in June we found ourselves jetting out of Leeds aiport to Palma. The main problem with the outward journey ... ...up all day, all the night and cranky for the first day of the holiday.
The coach journey between Palma and Calas de Mallorca took just over an hour and a half, with the travel rep complaining all the time that she was tired!!! When we arrived, we were shown to the hotel reception and from there, to our rooms (two adjacent). This was an improvement as we were told it was a family room when we booked!
It was raining!!!! unheard of in Mallorca, but ...

Advantages: Quiet, relaxing, friendly Disadvantages: Isolated, limited night life.
Just returned from Callas de Mallorca on the eastern coast. We booked this trip on short notice and had no idea of our destination on the Island until we landed at Parma Airport. Whilst this quaint corner of the Island is very nice, we found it quite isolated. The shopping centre is very adequate and the beaches hidden amongst the bays are very nice. It is very much a place for a relaxing holiday. A week isolated here could be boring unless you are ... ...more lively and populated areas, i.e. Palma, Arenal, etc. If you just want to get away from it all I would recommend Callas de Mallorca but, if you want to go to town on your holiday, literally go to town and choose the more well known areas of the Island. ...
