I applied to Camp America to work as a camp councellor for a summer of my gap year. The application process is quite legnthy, I had to fill in my application form, go for an interview and then an orientation meeting. However, once that is all sorted i was very well looked after. CA organise your contract, visa, flights, transfer to camp and help you out with any problems once your their. You dont' have to pay out to CA but they do take most of your wages while you are out their. You don't earn much, but the experience is fantastic and your food and board is covered by the camp, so you don't need much.
I returned to the same camp the following year, this time i organised my contract and flights direct. I got CA to organise my visa asnd this went very smoothly. I found this was a great way to travel alon, as sonn as i arrived at the airport i was surrounded by people with CA tags on their bags, a great way to meet fellow travellers.
