After deciding to take a trip to Glasgow for a few days, my husband and I set out to find a good value hotel. After looking at the usual Travelodges and Premier Travel Inns, we came across the Campanile hotel which is like the French version of Travelodge. It was 52 pounds a night and had a secure car park, something which we found very good as parking in Glasgow tends to be quite expensive. Although the price was good we decided to shop around and managed to book 3 nights for 122 pounds on Expedia.

The location of the hotel was very good as it was in the newly upgraded and developed area near the SECC and surrounding the hotel was luxury apartments, the new Clyde Arc bridge, the new STV and BBC Scotland studios and the SECC and Glasgow Science Centre. It was 20 minutes walking to the Kelvingrove Art Museum and the Transport Museum and to the nearest subway station on Byres Road and it was less than 10 minutes by car to the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre.

The hotels car park has barriers and a code issued by the hotel is used to exit the parking area which we found to be reassuring.

The hotel lobby was very welcoming in mediteranean colours such as terracotta tiles and green carpet and the reception area was of light wood and there were plenty of plants around and a nice siting area. Leading off from the reception area is the restaurant and there is a separate bar, both continuing the colour scheme of the lobby. There are also conference roms in the hotel and these were used frequently while we were there as the hotel is in a business area.

Our double room was very cosy, with a very comfy bed, a nice little sofa, a desk and a tv. We also had use of a kettle to make tea and coffee and a hairdryer. In the room there was also shelves to put clothes on which we found to be handy and is usually lacking from other budget hotel rooms. The room had a very nice bathroom attached with a bigger-than-average power shower.
The only problem we had that when we first checked in and arrived at our room the pillows on the bed were unmade and had a nasty stain on one of them but we quickly alrted one of the cleanrs and in a few minutes we had a new pilllow and a completely made-up room.

A bonus we found with the room was that the tv had a special feature where you could order pay-per-view movies or you could pay around 6 pounds for the whole day and watch as many pay-per-view channels as you liked within 24 hours. We didn't use this feature but the films available were all recent including Casino Royale and The Devil Wears Prada.

Breakfast was available at the hotel and you could have a continental buffet breakfast or cooked breakfast for 6.50 per person although we never took breakfast at the hotel. At the restaurant there was a good selection of meals, from a set menu to an offer where u could have a starter or dessert buffet plus one of the dishes of the day for around 10 pr person. Again we didn't eat at the hotel although we have on previous ocasions in a Campanile in Belgium and we always found the food to be very tasty and fairly priced.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel as it is everything you could want from a nice hotel and it's in a good location. I would really reccommend people to try staying in a Campanile over a Travelodge any day!
