The Liverpool Campanile is great and it's cheap. The setting seems to be poor at first glance but don't be fooled. There are two great places to eat around here, one is in the hotel itself: a small range but well prepared. The other might astonish you: there is a naff looking pub across the road which has won national awards for its 'home' cooking. If you can bear to walk half a mile, then the Albert Dock awaits with a fine selection of eateries. Beware, they can be amazingly snobbish for Liverpool.
The hotel has two downsides. The first is that I was stung on my phone bill: local rate (ie 0845) calls are charged long distance. Don't surf the internet here. And second - how shall I put this - the walls are a bit thin. I was woken up every 40 minutes one night by a couple who must have been olyimpic gymnasts. Or wrestlers. Or both.
In short, a fine hotel, right on the docks. Its convenient for town and its friendly.
