The Riches of Richmond

Advantages: Great for familly and anyone wishing to get healthy and enjoy sport
Disadvantages: Too far for me to go

...to see the newly build Richmond Olympic Oval; well you don’t have to ask me twice, I love visiting buildings both new and old ones, but I do prefer the older ones. So after a few hiccups we found ourselves at the Oval. Richmond BC appears to be the ideal setting for such a sporting facility as the town claims to have the longest life expectancy and the lowest obesity rates in all of Canada, so where else would they launch a new sport and fitness ...
...ahead was give and The Richmond Olympic Oval started to take form. It was built on the banks of the Fraser River, which would be a hallmark of accessibility, sustainability and world-class sportsmanship. It covers an area of 512,000 square feet and can house up to 8,000 spectators; its roof is a two-hectare clear span structure which has been designed to hold a 400 metre skating oval. The roof was made from salvaged wood from the pine trees which ...

Part 2 A Canadian Adventure

Advantages: full program of entertainment for 4 day, everything in one place
Disadvantages: price of ice, finding tent after long days drinking and partying!!

...Saskatoon, I took the Greyhound from downtown Calgary, located a little out of the way and not on the C-train route but easy to find in a taxi (and on foot as I checked out the day before just a little far from my accommodation). There was a wonderful little café that woke me up with a good espresso and fresh muffin. Faultless timing with greyhound as has always been my experience. Not too busy but as there are three a day going as far as Hanna and ...
...opt for a seat on the left for eastbound and right side for westbound so as to avoid being boiled by the sun through the window. Arrived in Hanna via Drummheller (home of the Worlds largest plastic dinosaur) more on Drummheller later. Hanna was once a thriving farming town with the regulation couple of grain elevators (sadly no longer) does have a successful machine shop and electricity generating station. Biggest claim to fame is probably the Hanna ...

What a great range of runs and terrain.

Advantages: Fantastic untouched powder and fabulous terrain.
Disadvantages: Rather slow lifts.

...up to its name, the powder was a cut above the rest, it really was that good. The mountain also offers heli skiing for those who like a challenge and for a small fee, around $7 you can be transferred to Lightning Ridge by snowmobile, an area the locals fear due to its sudden rocky outcrops and drop offs that test even the best of skiiers. The instructors were fantastic too, my instructor was called Tom, an ex-marine who was fearless and really pushed ...
...time out there. The lodges were very comfortable as well, the locals are really friendly and the food was good too. You HAVE to try the chilli beef soup, it's fantastic. Another great thing about "Pow Mow" is that a lot of the crowds miss it by going to the nearby popular resorts such as Park City, but they really dont know what they are missing. This resort made my time in America something i will remember for years to come and i would reccomend ...

A cartoon town type of village

Advantages: quality interior snow
Disadvantages: too many intersecting runs

Silver Star Resort (now owned by the same opperator as Big White) is located near Vernon B.C. ************ The Village***************** The resort village is an interesting collection of "victorian style" town house painted in an eclectic mix of bright blues, yellows and pinks. This lends itself to the very fairy tale cartoon feel to the place. The Village is a pedestrian only one and that gives the area a realaxed feel. It is located on the side ...
...*******National Altitude Training center***** Silver Star is the home of the national altitude training center and as a result there are some pretty cool things to do there that are not on offer at every ski resort. Such as taking advantage of the Indoor climbing wall. It is located in the training center. There you will also find a weight training room and the stage that resort staff display their talents on to keep guests entertained. ******** ...

hidden gem in the interior of bc

Advantages: well laid out resort
Disadvantages: limited direct flight services

Sun Peaks Resort is located in the interior of British Columbia,Canada. This area is known for the quality of snow that it recieves and Sun Peaks is known for the quality of groomed runs. The resort has recieved awards for this. Sun Peaks is the 2nd largest ski resort in B.C and has a very well planned 6 year old village. So all the accomodation at the mountain is new. The resort is situated in a tight valley that accesses three ski mountains. Mt ...
...together. Sun Peaks has opened up large treed areas between the runs too. These areas are known as gladed skiing. For those looking for an extra challenge there are many many areas that will keep your heart pounding as you navigate your way around the trees. After skiing there are several restaurants and bars to choose from ranging from family dinning experiences to semi fine dinning. There is also a large night club to enjoy for those that did ...
