Bouncy beds in Kamloops
Review of The Thompson Hotel and Conference Centre, Kamloops by jo145

Advantages: Good hotel and conference centre in downtown Kamloops
Disadvantages: None

Picture the gold rush in 1860, and later the arrival of the Canadian Pacific railway and you can understand why Kamloops in British Columbia, at the confluence of two branches of the Thompson River became an important city. It has over 92,000 residents and this is increased regularily when the Rocky Mountaineer train rolls into the station. The hotel is just a few minutes from the shops, musuems etc in Downtown Kamloops, and very close to restaurants. ...
...and we were glad that the hotel had efficient air conditioning because it was very humid. Check in was very fast as we were given keycards before we left the Rocky Mountaineer train, and our cases had already been delivered to our rooms. Reception was a mixture of stone walls and woodwork and had a few settees and chairs, some people took the lifts and others the stairs and we were soon in our comfortable bedroom. There were 98 bedrooms and suites, ... Read review

A motel not a hotel!
Review of Mount Robson Inn, Jasper, Alberta, Canada by jo145

Advantages: Different rooms and suites available
Disadvantages: Only restaurant to meet up with other people

We arrived at the Mount Robson Inn in the Jasper National Park late one afternoon after a long coach journey and check in was very quick. Just as well, as the reception was quite small, although there was a couple of settees that you could sit on whilst waiting and some leaflets about the area. Our luggage was taken straight from the coach and in our room for when we arrived, if you drove you had to deal with your own luggage, as this is really a ...
...the Rockies. They liked the Mount Robson as the bikes were parked outside their rooms and you were given rags to clean your bikes of dust and insects! Incidentally for skiers there was a row of lockable cupboards outside to store their skis as these were not allowed in the rooms. There was a launderette with two washing machines and two driers, I think it cost $2 per machine and you could buy packets of washing powder for $1. These were easy to ... Read review

My night in a Chateau
Review of The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada by jo145

Advantages: Beautiful setting, lots of restaurants
Disadvantages: Very large and busy hotel and expensive

...Lake Louise looked stunning on the website, with the Lake right on its doorstep. The history of this hotel is fascinating, starting with a two bedroomed cabin, but far too long for my review, if you want to read all about it the look at http://www.fairmont.com/ENFA/Property/CLL/AboutUs/HotelHistory.htm because this explains why a Canadian hotel has a Swiss flavour! We arrived at midday and had already been informed that it was unlikely that our ...
...came onto the coach and told us a few details, including that the hotel was extremely busy with over 1100 guests so we would be advised to reserve a table for dinner as soon as possible. We were directed into a large area away from the main reception and were allocated room numbers, one or two got their key cards, but the rest of our coach had to go back to reception in an hour. Meanwhile we wandered along a covered walkway, past lots of lovely little ... Read review

I had to cook my own breakfast!
Review of High Country Inn by jo145

Advantages: Inn in downtown Banff.
Disadvantages: Breakfast was disappointing and luggage left for guests to deal with.

Banff was the first place we stayed at on our tour of the Rockies, just two blocks from Downtown Calgary with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. This hotel was popular both in summer for tourists and winter for the skiers and a log fire burning in the lounge near the entrance must be a welcoming sight on a cold snowy day. Reception Two members of staff were on duty and they quickly processed our voucher and gave us key cards for our ...
...unlikely that you spend more in this hotel, as the restaurant was owned separately we found out later and breakfast was complimentary. We took the nearby lift to our floor, although being only 3 floors it was as quick to walk to the first floor! Bedroom Two Queen sized beds dominated the room, but there was still space to move around. Modern check covers, which looked fairly new, blended well with the carpet and curtains. There was a door ... Read review

Lake Louise Inn
Review of Lake Louise Inn, Alberta, Canada by Chuckles1987

Advantages: Beautiful Location, Amazing skiing!
Disadvantages: Mayhem, Absolute mayhem

When we first arrived at Lake Louise Inn we immediately got an impression of the mayhem that would follow... We arrived late at night, and due to some confusion with an upgrade we had made were sent to the wrong room by a bemused night porter. There were five of us- the room we were sent to had only two beds...? Two of our party returned to reception to try to sort out the problem whilst the other three of us huddled in the doorway of the wrong ...
...coffee maker, etc. The Lake Louise Inn boasts a heated (I would dispute that) swimming pool and hot tub. There is supposedly a steam room although this was out of order at the time of our visit and reception staff informed up would be for the next four or so months! One thing that the Inn does get right is food, there's a restaurant, an Italian and a bar serving food- You can even get pizza from the Italian delivered to your room. The service in ... Read review
