When we arrived at our resort there was a local dive school in the harbour, but on investigation it seemed that the course was started of with open water activities , and I wanted the girls to do some pool diving first.
I then found what turned out to be an excellent diving school. It was run by british divers, had full insurance cover, came across as exstreamly proffesional and offered a PADI open water course over 3 or 4 days.
I met with the owner of the school and he inspired confidence.
The school is based in Corralejo, in the northern part of the island. It is run by a guy named Dave and is called "H2O Diving".
The total cost of the course including a scuba medical was under £250.
The girls qualified and are now awaiting the arrival of their permanent liciences.
I would wholeheartedly recommed this school for anyone wishing to achieve a diving qualification or just to take part in a pleasure dive.
If you are doing the PADI qualification remember to take 2 passport photos with you as these are required by PADI for your licience.
Do not have your medical in the uk. I think average UK costs are around £60 and it was only about £18 on the island.
Advantages: great diving close by Disadvantages: poor leaders
This is a great place to dive, too far from the UK only about 5 hrs which compared to most diving is but a short hop away.
The waters are clear and reasonabley warm. The only problem we found seemed to be the quality of the dive leaders, we dived with some Finnish group who spoke good English but were not the safest divers I have ever met, the main thing seemed to be the money rather than the safety which was not good. The actual diving is great ... ...and rays upto about 6 ft long which is very impressive especially as you can get close enough to touch them. There is also at least one large wreck to dive a bulk carrier that has sunk in about 30m of water and is over 100m in length is an incredible site to behold. ...

Advantages: Not that far from UK Disadvantages: Weather meant cancelling a couple of dives
Just returned from diving in Tenerife, with the Tenerife Dive Club, which is a dive centre in Silencio which runs both PADI and BSAC courses.
We had planned on taking in 6 dives over 3 days, but the conditions put paid to 2 of the dives (rough sea/poor viz).
The diving in general was very enjoyable, helped by the very friendly staff at the dive centre, and the other divers we met. The highlight (for us) was a dive to a site called El Aquario. Rolling ... ...small wreck, which was home to literally dozend of stingrays, and a couple of moray eels.
We had taken some fish to feed the rays, and this was an incredible experience. Once they realized we had food, they were all around us waiting to get a bit of fish.
These incredible animals seemed to be everywhere you looked, and I can honestly say that this came a very close second to diving with dolphins in Eilat a couple of years earlier.
Once the supply ...

I went diving in Tenerife and that was wicked ! The water was really clear , and I saw crabs clibing up the rocks with was amazing . Plus the water was not cold at all , which was brilliant ! We just walked into the sea from a peable beach which was lovely . And under the water there was lots and lots and lots and fish life , and there was one that was as big as well 2 metres ! W O W ! It looks like the water will be 'chopy' but it is not because ...
