I have used Canberra Airport (or Brindabella) three times in the last year. Twice for national flights and once to go to Hong Kong. Every time, I was there, I enjoyed the experience.
When you first arrive, you see a lovely entrance and a big lake outside.
Flights Several big airlines fly in and out of Canberra including Qantas (international), Virgin Blue (over Australia), Ansett and Hazelton (state).
The Airport The Airport is almost in the middle of Canberra. It is situated near the river. It is directly beside an RAAF Base and has roads and rail-links all around it.
Car parking is $13AUS a day the last time I visited, this hasn’t changed in quite a while so it is probably the same. You can pay more ($17.50AUS) to get premium parking facing the main terminal, I think this is a waste of time unless you really are busy and rich. Short-stay parking is refreshingly cheap at around $2AUS for a typical stay.
With three runways, it can handle a large amount of aircraft, big and small. To be honest, the vast majority or traffic is made up of Cessna’s and Pipers. However, it can handle much larger jets such as Airbus’s and Boeing’s.
They do cater very well for the environment, they are always planting trees, consulting locals and environmentalists and doing other things in the community.
The Area The airport is a major hub for Australian business Canberra is the capital, but not the biggest city, however it is growing.
Like most airports, it has a flying school; however, they also have a airline flying school with planes such as the 737 and A330.
Hawker, an aircraft company have a station here that maintains aircraft and builds small parts.
Canberra has a very good pilot shop where pilots and enthusiasts can get all they need for relatively cheap prices.
Transport is easy with all the popular hire companies, cabs, trains, buses and of course planes.
All the usual services are also available such as; lost property, police, shops, tourist information and money changing facilities.
