We stayed at the Tucancun Beach hotel in June last year. The hotel itself is pretty basic - but comparing prices we got a really good deal. Its one of those all-inclusive hotels. It only had three restaurants, 2 buffet (1 normal, and 1 italian) and a Mexican A la Carte. The restaurants were so disappointing - after trying each one, we then spent the rest of the holiday eating out all over Cancun for decent food which cost us a fortune but it was absolutely necessary. The normal buffet was ok for breakfast. Lunch there was served again at dinner time. The Italian had a limited menu - just choose the pasta shapes you want and choose a colour of sauce and thats you. The mexican a la carte had to be booked that morning - limited spaces so if you were not up before 8am you didn't stand a chance. The mexican menu was appalling - starters were self service and there were only 5 main courses to choose from. Everything else about the hotel was fantastic - the entertainment, all day and all night was excellent. The pool areas were superb and spotless. The rooms were basic but clean and cool. The bathrooms were huge. Only one night did we experience nosiy neighbours. The hotel is in an excellent position on the beach right behind the Kulcancun Plaza - so shopping was close by. Nightlife in the hotel zone was great -- take a bus up there and visit Senor Frogs and Dady Rocks, etc Only problem is that many are all-inclusive entries (entry and drinks) - I'm not a big drinker so I don't always get my moneys worth. Also - pay each and every drink - don't run up a tab - cos you'll be in for a fright at the end of the night. Also - keep some single dollars on you at all times - cos they expect a tip even to go to the loo !!

Yello! Welcome to Ciao - decent review, a bit about Cancun in general would be good. I'm off to Mexico soon, although I think most hotels will be a bit beyond my price range ~ Nik

Sorry for rating but you haven't told us anything much about Cancun as a resort but mostly about the food on offer in the hotel you stayed in. Lexy

A good start but would be helpful if you could add more info on the resort and you say it was expensive but you could mention how much. Hope this helps anna x
