The first thing that hits you is the heat as you get out the plane. The Mexican's are strict and go through every case before you can enter the country and they're all out for a tip, but willing to help you in any way to get. And you've got to remember a couple of pounds is a lot to them. The CarribeanVillage is lovely hotel, classed as 3 star in the brochure. However the service is great and the pool area's very lively and has it's own stretch of private beach just down a few steps, and the all inclusive drinks service covers there as well. There's a pool bar and these people are generous with thier measures and experimental with the cocktails! The rooms in the hotel were fairly basic, but with huge beds, excellent air conditioning systems, powerful showers, digital tv showing American channels, hairdryer etc.etc. You can get a deposit box free of charge and the cleaners don't just change your bed they tidy up for you! Also there's 3 restaurants you can book into once a week to have a break from the 3 times a day buffets. The location is right next to a shopping mall with Aquarium, American burger joint place and a Diesel shop selling current season jeans for £30 a pair! Amoung many other shops. You can do anything from Speed Boating and scuba diving to cultural visits and swimming with dolphins. Cozumel is a beautiful island and scuba diving there was the best experience of my holiday. There's no shortage of things to do at night. The clubs and huge and packed every night and generally you just pay around £15 to get in and that includes all your drinks! If you tip the bartender about $5 at the beginning of the night and top it up with a couple of dollars they'll see you through the crowds at the bar from miles off, make sure you're not waiting and also prepare special drinks for you. The best was definately Coco Bongo, although it sounded a bit cheesy when our holiday rep told us about it. It was fantastic though, with shows every 10 minutes, mainly movie related. I also went to The City, Senor Frogs and Daddy Os and couldn't really fault any of them although Daddy Os was my least favourite as it's smaller. Drinking in the bars isn't really worth it, although has a nice atmosphere. It cost me and my boyfriend the same for 2 rounds of drinks as entry into the clubs did. Taxis aren't a lot either, although our hotel had a coach go to a different club every night where we had queue jumpers and reserved tables. This is only a scratch on the surface of things you can do (and I've probably forgotten some), but being the poolside type the only other place I went was the water park which was alright but a little expensive. The only bad thing was our holiday rep who was miserable, but that was only a reflection on Thomsons really. Also, going to Chichen Itza was the hottest I think I've ever been and the tour guides do like to waffle on about the gods and what not. Although it was still a good day and such a shock to come out of built up Cancun into the jungle and see all the Chichens living in Mud Huts and selling hand made goods, astrological personal charts and food/drinks on the road side. They put on a little meal later with dancers and the hottest chilli sauce I've ever had. All in all, this holiday was the best of my life so far. Even though it was hot, as a fair skinned person I wouldn't say it was unpleasant. I would definately recommend it to anyone. It's not all fajitas and sombreros, as there's plenty of variation.

Very safe. I had no problems or worries or any sort. It was very clean, well staffed and the food was great quality and freshly made. The rooms were secure and a safety deposit box is provided free of charge.
I would say it's safe for children as well, though the hotel came across as a bit of a party 'spring break' style hotel (may have been the time of year).
My boyfriend left his mobile at reception by accident while we were exchanging money and it was returned to him promptly and things could be left by the pool without worrying, so I'd say it was very safe all round.

Advantages: A very good resort with lots of different attractions Disadvantages: Sometimes expensive, and a bit of a tourist trap. Take dollars ONLY for the airport tax.
