No Cannes Do
Advantages: Great place for people watching Disadvantages: a tacky novelty that wore off quickly
...too English resort of Nice, Cannes seemed an ideal box to tick and the 40ft Motorhome trundled laboriously along the picturesque if not scary coastal road that can take you from Monaco to Marseille with the sea never leaving your eyeline.
The traffc to and from Cannes was about as busy as we had seen over the few weeks and the glaring neon of the place can be seen for miles. Parking proved to be a pain and just about all car parks had barriers on ... ...in at the internationally known Cannes Film Festival. At this point, my crepe was about to live up its name so I took the opportunity to powder my nose in the very plush toilets of this very luxurious hotel. I share spare you the details of the experience but will tell you that in humble hertfordshire ways I have never come accross such a wonder...... it only just stops short of wiping your derrierre.
Refreshed, i continued along the promenade with ...

Cannes the place to be! all year around.
Advantages: Social life. Disadvantages: Expensive
...any harm. I love Cannes all year around, but the best months are definately June and September-October. This way you avoid the crowds, you can find a spot on one of the two free beaches and enjoy the sunshine. If you like boat watching there are two great ports to cruise around, watch the deckies sweating in the sun. The old town of Cannes is especially beautiful at night, some wonderful restaurants and little shops to peruse. Truely a great town ...

Glamorous Cannes
Advantages: Gorgeous, Glamorus, nice weather, beautiful beach Disadvantages: expensive
...people alike.
We reached Cannes by train from Nice. It is approximately a half an hour journey by train from Nice along the beautiful Mediterranean coast and the trains are very frequent. There are direct trains (both high speed TGV and normal) from Paris, too. The nearest airport is at Nice. It takes about an hour by road to reach Cannes from Nice airport. Apart from rental car services, there are bus connections from the airport, too.
From train ... ...against the modern and fashionable Cannes at the other side of the sea.
We were staying at Nice and went back there in the evening catching the return train. Cannes is full of hotels and holiday apartments. But most of them are rather expensive, thanks to its glamorous and fashionable reputation. However, there are plenty of equally beautiful places nearby along the Mediterranean coast where you can get relatively cheaper accommodation. It is highly ...

Cannes on a budget - yes, you can do it
Advantages: Glamorous, no mosquitos, cultural, beautiful, an experience Disadvantages: Full of silly little poodles & their equally silly owners - can be expensive if you don't watch the prices
...to have a week in Cannes & spend no more than you would anywhere else in the Med! I was in Cannes years ago & did find it terribly expensive (but we were young, on the prowl & in search of nothing but drink & men... but not necessarily in that order).
This time however, we were on a different mission - a secret trip to the Monaco Grand Prix - tickets were a surprise 30th birthday present for my loved one - and boy was he surprised! The GP is great ... ...lovely accommodation - the Resideal Cannes right behind the Carlton & the Noga Hilton on the Croisette. It had a lovely pool, was 30 seconds from the Croisette & Rue d'Antibes & was gorgeous. The bar however, was a total rip off! We went to the supermarket in search of cheap & we certainly found it in Monoprix (opp the SNCF). 50p for beer, £2 for wine - we were in heaven each night on the balcony. Word of warning - they also have an amazing bakery ...

film festival
Advantages: Lots of fun, great weather, fun people Disadvantages: very expensive
I went out to The Cannes Advertising Film Festival. Ok, I know that you thought that this was going to be about glamorous stars, but it's not. This is about how to gate-crash all of the fun parties. The advertising festival (yes you can still meet rich and famous directors - most do commercials just to tide them over between feature films)are normally in about a month or so after the film festival in June.
Firstly, this is not a place to go on a ... ...either rent an apartment or have a house up in the hills, you'll be much better off - the further out you go, the better the accomodation. Some of my friends actually ended up with a house that slept 10 with a pool, but it did take 15 minutes to get down to the seaside.
If you want to go to the parties, turn up glam, a lot of people don't make the effort, so if you do you'll get in. The second thing you need to do is mention the name of one of the ...
