Is anyone still around who knows me? If you are it would be great to hear from you. Leave me a message in my guest book to let me know that you are all ok and I will contact you back. It would be nice to know how everyone is doing.

We didn't think that going to the Kennedy Space centre would be that interesting but we thought we had to go there whilst we were in Florida just to say that we had been there.
On monday 1st July we set off from Kissimee to NASA for the day. My mum had a brochure telling you the cost of all the parks if we pre booked our tickets in the UK and it said that it was £60 to get into the Kennedy Space centre and myself and my 24 year old brother refused to pay this price as it was just a museum. But we found a voucher which entitled us to $5 off the entrance fee, but we still were not prepared to pay £55 so we went up to buy the tickets and it only cost us $22.50 each, which is about £16 - £17 so that was ok. We went in and we first went on the bus tour which took us to different parts of the Space Centre such as the launch pads, the viewing point, the hangar where they build and maintain the rockets, then
we had an opportunity to watch films, see the rockets which have been launched from NASA and also got to go inside a real space shuttle which was very interesting. When we went to one of the musuems they a they had one of the rockets in full size laying horizontally above you. This was approximately 300 ft long and about 26.5 m in diameter. I couldn't get over the size when I saw it. Never till this day did I realise that rockets were so big and I may not of never known unless I visited the Kennedy Space centre.
Seeing it for real was amazing.
There was the model version of it too but the best thing was seeing it for real.
They also told you and showed films about some of the launches which went wrong and they lost a few lives. They had a grave stone for all these people and a picture of them telling you some things about them.
We also saw models and all the rockets they have launched from NASA since it opened and it was amazing to see how each time there was a launch they increased the size of them.
We also watched a video on how they prepare for take off and where they sit when preparing for a launch.
There was so much to do and see here that it was no way in this world a boring day. I didn't realise how intresting knowing about this was until I went.
I left my parents watching a film and went to a couple of museums otherwise I wasn't going to get time to see everything that I wanted to here.
The visitor complex is so spaced out that it can take about 7 minutes to walk from one museum to another.
You could also pay a bit more and could have lunch with an astronaught which may of been an experience and a half, but we did decide not to do this because we didn't really have the time.
There were also Astronaughts on hand to ask any questions which was good. I didn't ask anything as I didn't really know what to ask anyway.
A couple of things I learnt was that it is about 6 miles to the launch pads from the hangar and it takes upto 8 hours to transport it from here to the launch pad and the external tank carries around 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for the three main engines. This is a hell of a lot of fuel, but then when you see the size of it, it is not that hard to believe actually. It was however hard to believe the size of these things. They are bigger than a Boeing 747 (jumbo jet) some of them. When you see them on tv, as this was the only place I had ever seen them and in books at school they looked quite small.
Anyway if you ever do go to Florida or are going I do recomend this as a day out for the family. If you have very young children, who are not going to understand, there is a supervied creche to leave them in whilst you potter about and learn some interesting facts and information about space. There is so much to do and see here and take in that it wasn't until I got home and reflected upon it that I found this one of the most educational days out all holiday and learnt things myself that I may of never done had I not gone. Well worth 16 - 17 pounds for the day. I recomend you just pay as you get there. Don't pre book your tickets over here or get them from your rep as they are more expensive.
My next move is to save up for another week out there and make sure I go when there is a launch as I would love to see this. I know it may cost a bit to see and only lasts a short time but I do think it will be well worth seeing and an experience and a half to carry around with you.
My parents know of a couple of people who have seen one and they said you have got to do it.
Anyway that's about it on the Kennedy Space center day out that we had and I definately recomend you go there when your in Florida.
Thanks for the read
Chantal

This sounds great, and this is one place I'd love to go. How do you find out when a launch is on?
