Advantages: Friendly staff, lovely pool, clean room Disadvantages: Dynamic currency conversion on our room costs paid by debit card
...We chose to visit the Holiday Inn Alicante Playa deSan Juan for a week in July after having three very pleasant stays in Express by Holiday Inns in the UK. We were not sure what to expect in terms of quality, however it was probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in.
The cost was €94 per night for an en suite room with king size bed and an “almost double” sofa bed. The room was on the third floor of the hotel and had a view of another apartment block to the rear of the hotel. However, this did not cause any problems as the apartments were quite a distance from the hotel, therefore not blocking the panoramic view.
THE HOTEL
The hotel building is over 7 floors: the ground floor, floors 1 to 5 and a floor called '-1'. If you are given a room on the '-1' floor, don't think that they are shoving you...

Advantages: Nice Hotel, rooms cleanand located in centre of town, and cheap Disadvantages: Noisy, you can clearly hear bars and clubs till the small hours, food average
...We stayed at the Mar de Cortez, February 2006. The rooms could be described as outdated, no television, kettle etc but large enough and probably about the cheapest you can get in Cabo! There is a pool, but while we were there it wasn't heated and water very cold. Major advantage of Mar de Cortez is it is in the centre of town, about five minutes walk to the Marina, good restaurants and bars etc. This is also a downfall, if you have an early rise, to go fishing etc. you will be aware of the loud noises coming from the clubs and bars that stay open until the early hours of the morning. The Mar de Cortez has a bar in it, but it wasn't very inviting, a good place to meet up before heading out somewhere else, and meeting up at the end of the night for a night cap. We tended to eat out of the hotel most of the time and only had breakfast...

Advantages: Beautiful buildings and artwork. Disadvantages: Crowds, and no photos allowed in Capilla Real
...The Cathedral is immense and impressive. High-vaulted ceilings and the white colour of the bricks all add to the sense of enormousness. Lots of gold around, particularly in the sparkeling organs. Religious paintings adorn the walls, some in a better state than others. Candels are no longer used in the cathedral, but for a donation an artifical candle will light up for you. There is also a small museum (no photos allowed) in the Cathedral which houses some of the Church's treasures, including intricate priests robes, and gold and silver challaces and ornaments; as well as a rather goulish statue of the head of John the Baptist on a silver plate!
The Capilla Real is where the Royal Monarchs, heralded for uniting Spain, are buried, along with three of their relatives. No photos are allowed anywhere in the Capilla Real, so you will have...

My wife and I have just spent a week at the Castilla and have returned home very disappointed with the hotel itself and the concrete jungle in which it resides. To start with the pluses: The hotel is spotlessly clean - though we did find in our room a... more
