~ A Day In Capri ~
We got the hydrofoil from the marina piccolo which takes about twenty to thirty minutes or so. As we approached Capri I was amazed at the view of elegant brightly coloured buildings and tropical trees and plants it really does take your breath away and looks a bit like Balamory (colourful childrens programme based around Balamory) with all the beautiful colours and shapes, I think you will see what I mean on the photo's.
We got a minibus to AnaCapri which is the island's second (Ana-means other), quieter town with lovely little white houses halfway up the slopes of Monte Solaro (which is the highest point on capri), one of the highlights for me was the scenic chairlift from piazza vittoria. A bit like a ski lift but much higher up, two italian men helped you on you sort of stand there and sit on whilst it's still moving (slowly). You don't have a belt but a bar goes across the front of your chair ( you are quite high up some people would find this scary). I loved it it was exilarating and some of the views from the chair lift are amazing. You actually go above and over peoples gardens, and it was really interesting to see all the different religious artefacts and statues in their gardens and also you get some really good views of Capri. The chair lift takes you to the top of Monte Solaro which takes about twenty minutes there is a lovely little cafe at the top were you can purchase food and drink.
~ Capri Town ~
After we had looked round a couple of the shops we walked to the square. We sat at a cafe looking across at the clock tower and a lovely little church called the Santo Stefano church. The square offers an escape from the madding crowds just two minutes away, in it's maze of little arcaded lanes and shops. Here I got chance to practise my limited Italian at a cafe/restaurant:
di vino bianco paga il mio amico
pronounced pag'ah eel mee'oh am'ee'co
please my friend is paying
Arriverderci
Aree'veh'dair'chee
Goodbye
~ Parco Augosto-The Gardens Of the Emperor Augustus ~
There was a lot more we wished we could have seen but we ran out of time and we had to make a dash to catch the funicular railway back down to the harbour. We would have liked to have visited the Blue Grotto, Villa Jovis and I would love to go on the chairlift again, maybe next time.
The trip back to Sorrento on the hydrofoil was lovely the sun was setting and making lovely reflections on the water.Thank's for reading may also be posted on other review sites.
