The downstairs only seats about 40 people maybe. And I must admit it can be a bit cramped. But again; it's cosy.
The food on offer ranges from basic pizzas through the normal pastas onto veal, and half+half (Consiting of half a pizza and a smaller than normal serving of pasta of your choice).
The range of food is great.

The downstairs only seats about 40 people maybe. And I must admit it can be a bit cramped. But again; it's cosy.

The range of food is great.
Starters include the usual soups and prawn cocktails but it also includes paté, Parma ham and melon and a few other oddites.
The starters don't tend to be so big as to fill you so much you don't want to eat your main though.
As I say, the mains range through pizza to pasta to steak.
The pizzas range from boring Tom & Cheese to make your own. You can have just about anything you want on them and they are all made in a real wood fired oven. This makes them piping hot, messey, black on the bottom (And if you pick it up with yer fingers they get rotten so be careful not to put your hands on your clothes!) but they are THE best pizzas I've ever had.
And if you could see the size of me you'd know I'd had a few of them in my time!
The pastas are equally lovely. Always piping hot and you get loads of it when it arrives.
Again there is a huge selection of pastas and if there is something not on the menu you fancy or if you prefer rigatoni to spaghetti they will be happy to make the change for you.
My faves though tend to be the steaks.
These don't tend to be the biggest but here it's quality and not quantity that counts as far as I'm concerned.
As per they are cooked to your liking with a choice of sauces (Peppercorn, dianne and a few others I can never rememeber) all of which are beautiful.
You get plenty of side salad and chips and all the trimmings with them on a HUGE plate (Next time I'm in I'll get the exact dimensions of the plates) ;-)
Deserts are a little more basic (Saying that I'm not a huge pud fan and so can't comment on this section too well).
As for prices; they do a Lunch Menu where you can order from a set menu for about a fiver.
This is a limited menu where you can have some of the cheaper starters, a limited selection of pastas etc (But you can get veal on this if you want) a dessert and coffee.
After this (It ends about 2ish) the prices range from £2/3 quid for the basic starters up to £5 quid the the Parma Ham and melon.
The mains are all fairly reasonable going from a fiver for a pasta up to £12 quid for the bigger steaks, with the pizzas being pretty much in the same range.
The desserts are about £3/4 each wich isn't too bad.
The restaurant is fully licensed and offers draught beers, bottles, wines and soft-drinks.
One of the best things about this place is the fact that it also has a takeout section to the side.
Anything on the menu and you can take it out.
Anything.
The steaks takeout very well. As do the pastas. And the pizzas.
The only problem with this side of it is the fact that you can get about two people in the takeaway part and as such you often end up standing in the rain waiting for your order. But it's worth it in the end.
At times service can be a little slow both in the restaurant and the takeaway but they are improving. The friendliness of the staff more than makes up for the lack of speed.
One point I nearly forgot to include; if it's your birthday you eat free.
The only conditions being that you:
1) Book. 2) There is more than three of you.
Then you get to eat free. You can have anything on the menu (At least the last time I went there you could). It might be best to take something with your age on it as proof though! Save any misunderstandings. ;-)
One word of warning though; parking can be a nightmare. There is the local Tesco round the corner and a Safeway car-park at the back but of a daytime the Safeway can be chocca so your best bet would be to park in Tesco and walk around the corner (Just past the bus station). It's only a two minute walk.
Anyway; I love this place and I'm sure you will so if you ever get the chance (And it's worth going out of your way for) go.

Quick review of Caprice, Edinburgh
Caprice is a small Italian pizzeria which sells the most gorgeous freshly wood fired oven-baked pizza I've had in a while, its prepared right fresh in front of you. Does takeaway and sitting in the small, dimly lit restaurant is a good experience. Very busy so advise to reserve ahead of time. portions are huge and very tasty!!! Good value for money and an old favourite with the locals. Highly recommended, ;-))) ...
