Advantages: Fantastic Experience, Great Music, Lovely People, Wonderfully Organised Disadvantages: Maybe Pricey For Those Not Into Music As Much
Myself, my other half and a lot of my friends have been frequenting the annual "Download" musicfestival for about 5 years now and this year was no different.
In June we trotted off up the M1 for the long weekend. However, this year we also attended the new Sonisphere festival that is in England for the first time since its creation. This is the first ?rock? festival besides Download that I have attended. I must say, this has inspired me to branch out my festival wings more often as this is now most certainly my favourite summer musicfestival.
A Little History
--------------------
Sonisphere has been around for a number of years since it was founded by Stuart Galbraith. Stuart started "Kilimanjaro Live" after working on the Download festival and wanting to branch out on his own.
The 2 day festival currently tours throughout ...
Advantages: good family fun, local bands, stalls and activities Disadvantages: Saturday can be a bit loud for the kiddies
says it's for children 16 years plus but I got a leaflet offering activities for younger children the other week (not that I know where I put it!). The trustees of the Trust organise nature walks and such for school groups and care for the horses and cows they have living on the land. I'm dragged there regularly to visit the horses and see any new ones that have arrived.
Anyway back to Music on the Moor ... It's well worth the trip. Get a picnic sorted, invite some friends and relax to some music. There's always a good atmosphere and it's free so if you think it sucks then you're not out of pocket! Apparently more then 100 local bands applied to play on one of the two stages at the festival.
Saturday: rock, pop, r 'n' b and funk
Sunday: classical, jazz and easy listening
According to a local paper last years festival attracted about 4 ...
Advantages: Interesting read, informative Disadvantages: Not a complete history of 60's music
"The sixties began in the summer of 1956, ended in October of 1973 and peaked just before the dawn on 1 July, 1967 during the set by Tomorrow at the UFO Club in London."
With this statement Joe Boyd sets the tone for his fascinating and very personal potted history of popular music in the 60's. In fact the book is more of a sketchy autobiography of Boyd than it is a complete guide to music in that period. He by no means covers the subject extensively but rather personally however since he was such an influential part of the 'scene' at that time his personal recollection do cover a very wide span of music and the music does give you a cultural feel for time.
Joe Boyd is an American born in 1942 from a white very middle class background; he first discovered a love of music from listening to his parent's old scratchy blues and jazz ...
