Hertz Hidden Charges Advantages: Nice Car Disadvantages: Hidden Charges, unable to speak English I hired a car from Hertz from 18th-21st Decemeber 2009. I collected it (having pre-paid for it IN FULL on expedia.com) from Paderborn airport on arrival and dropped it off again having re-fuelled the tank long before the time specified. As you can imagine i was a little shocked when a further £49.57 was debited from my account on 24th Dec?! I emailed Hertz and 2 weeks later i have finally got my reply - an invoice showing the following... RENTAL ... ...37.80 ABORTIVE DELIVERY CHARGE 7.00 VOUCHER** -103.62 VAT 8.51 INVOICE AMOUNT 53.31 EUR Now this shocks me because as previously stated, i collected and dropped off the car so does abortive delivery charge meaning they are charging me for NOT having it delivered?? Paid 681 $ /441 € for one night rental car!!!! Advantages: none Disadvantages: Unbelievable customer policies! Unfriendly. Short term money is more worth than a satisfied customer. Very poor customer policies! Alamo really surprised us with very strange business ethics! To sum up my experience: Alamo personnel give customers false information (about reimbursement and about car details). Alamo cannot handle special requests (we needed a special car and tried to solve this in advance). Alamo rather takes short term money instead of building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer. The whole story: We made a reservation ... ...this special car we phoned Alamo in Reno in advance which car to book and explained that we definitely need this car type and no other. They told us we need a Full Size SUV and promised us that this is no problem. Once being there it turned out that the Full Size SUV hat no stow & go function. Unfortunately, we got into Reno with the last flight, so being back at the Alamo station we found this station already closed and everybody gone. Carjet - don't use this company Advantages: Cheap but beware if you have a problem Disadvantages: Poor customer service who keep missing the point ...they are having financial difficulties. Carjet sent a bulk email to cancel the reservation which went to my junk email box - I therefore didn't find it! Arrived at Palma airport late at night without knowledge of the cancellation and was only able to find a very expensive tiny car for my family including 2 small children - made the holiday very difficult and stressful. Europcar - you get what you pay for. Terrible experience. Advantages: Large dealer network Disadvantages: Extremely poor customer service and poor dispute resolution Put simply, Europcar in our experience are to be avoided at all costs. They may well be one of the cheapest providers, with a large network of vehicles, but our experience is that this company pays little or no regard to the needs of its customers. If you do rent a car from them, check the exterior AND the interior thoroughly BEFORE you sign the papers as we were not given the opportunity to do so before the vehicle was checked out and this caused ... ...properly on return. With most other companies this would be resolved quickly, but due to the unavailability of the customer service department, the issue still lingers without resolution. They took money from our account without any discussion or justification and then ignored attempts to communicate with them. The car from hell? Advantages: Pick up and take back Disadvantages: Car not checked before hire - beware. Check befor you set off. A few months ago I hired a large car, which turned out to be a very ugly (only my opinion) Chrysler Sabine. I hired it for 10 days to go on holiday with. Not going away till the Sunday I had to pick it up on the Saturday. The car was less than 6 months old. When I picked it up I discovered one of the rear passanger doors would not open. The manager virtually said 'tough luck' - as I wouldn't need the door I took the car. When I got home I removed ... ...rear of the car. On Sunday i drove a few miles to fill the tank. (had a tesco money off voucher-so didn't use a local garage). On the way back the temp guage reached its upper limit. I drove slowly home. When the car had cooled (I had to delay leaving for my holiday) I checked the expansion tank. IT WAS EMPTY!!!!!. It needed 2 and a half litres of water to fill it! While I had the bonnet up I checked the oil. The dipstick came out dry!!!!
