It’s a mix of a traditional keep with a moat (presently filled with water) and a stately home (albeit not a grandiose one). The entrance is by one of the main thoroughfares in Cardiff and so very easy to get to. You can take guided tours around the home which are thoroughly recommended as some of the rooms are a treasure to behold – so much decoration and lavishness packed into such small rooms. Not much to see in the keep but the climb up the steep steps to it is worth it just for the views – how did they pack the Millenium Stadium between those buildings? Added bonuses to the Castle are the Roman Wall housed in a very long underground corridor which also has a quirky mural stretching the whole length of it. If you’re into military history there’s a few museums for you and if you’re a twitter there’s a few peacocks thrown in to the price as well. A great time should be had by all.
