Good value for money - poor beds
Advantages: Located in-between Cardiff City Centre and Cardiff Bay Disadvantages: Old, uncomfortable, beds
...visit to an Express by Holiday Inn after being impressed by a visit to another location.
On the booking website, it stated that a "water view" was available on request. So, we requested one as this would have been a nice view to wake up to. The water view was lovely. But tilt your head a little further up and all you see is an old docks crane, a huge industrial warehouse (which "churned" all night) and a busy road. None of these were really a problem ... ...windows did not need to be opened, as the room had a combined heating/cooling system.
Check-in was easy - although they were very strict with the "2pm check-in" rule. As a Priority Club member, our key was waiting for us when we arrived.
The car park exit was token operated - the tokens were in a jar on the reception desk (which they forgot to tell us about until we attempted to leave) so take a few on your first day to save having to visit each ...

Ideal for working stays
Advantages: Comfy, good food Disadvantages: Some single rooms are a little small
...for me is usually at Churchills which is an ideal place to stay. It is quite and friendly.
The Hotel is situated about 15 minutes walk from the City centre and is easily reached by car. There is plenty of parking space which is very secure.
The rooms in general are very good. They are clean and well furnished. They are all en-suite and have TV and tea making facilities. However, on one or two occassions, I have found the single rooms to be a little ... ...you are claustrophobic. On the other hand, the Hotel has several suites suitable for families. These are excellent and offer extensive accommodation.
The Restaurant offers excellent food to suit all tastes. The service is fast and friendly. Breakfast is freshly cooked not a buffet.
The bar is very basic and can at times be a little noisy due to second rate singers. However, sound does not seem to carry to the rooms and sleeping is easy.
I would ...

The Sandringham
Advantages: Central to town, friendly staff Disadvantages: Could do with updating
...decided to stay at the Sandringham Hotel because it was so close to all amenities. It was literally down the street from where the show was, in St. Mary's Street, so when it was late at night, I didn't mind traipsing (sp) back to the hotel.
The first impressions of this hotel is quite nice. It looks quite attractive outside. As you step inside it does however look slightly dated. There were racks and notice boards where you can pick up local information ... ...to visit etc.
Something did occur to me at this point as it appeared that to get to the main foyer and reception desk, this was up a flight of stairs. I do not recall seeing a lift! For disabled people and those carrying a lot of luggage, this is an obvious problem. I may be totally wrong, and there was facilities for this, but to me they were not obvious!
Once getting to the reception desk to check in, I find that it is a friendly family run hotel. ...

Expensive but luxurious
Advantages: Luxurious, Lively Cardiff Bay Location Disadvantages: Price, Distance From City Centre
Situated in Cardiff Bay, St Davids Hotel and Spa is Cardiff's only five star rated hotel. Don't be suprised if, while being pampered in the luxury marine spa or enjoying drinks in Tides bar, you catch sight of a few famous faces! St Davids Hotel is four miles from the city centre, making it quieter than central hotels but less convenient for tourists planning to go shopping or sightseeing. Transport is available into the city centre by train and ... ...biggest waterfront development. Since it was regenerated, it has become a major attraction for visitors to Cardiff. A range of attractions are available, including water tours, Techniquest discovery centre and the Welsh Assembly building. There are also a selection of stylish bars and restaurants within the Atlantic Wharf development which provide top quality drinks and dining. Rooms:
With prices starting at £84 per room per night, St David's hotel ...

Bless them for trying but this hotel does not deliver
Advantages: central Disadvantages: lazy impolite staff, uncomfortable beds, very noisy, bad breakfast, next to no parking
...to low budget hotels. However the photos of the owner john malkovic looking pained and angst ridden which you see in the foyer are the best way to explain what your stay in this very noisey soulless hotel will be like, with staff who are totally uninterested and with only 20 or so parking spaces for its hundreds of rooms. The small single beds are uncomfortable and when i politely rang down to reception to ask what time the road works outside would ... ...the workmen stay in the hotel and would have mentioned if they were working late... as though this was my imagination! we were told a hot breakfast was on offer only to find that this involved (still warm) hard boiled eggs... i would have been happier in a travellodge. ...
