Advantages: A Gangster classic for everyone Disadvantages: None
Carlito's Way is a fantastic film in which both Al Pacino and Sean Penn give stunning performances. A main theme in the film is redemption, Al Pacino plays an ex criminal who has been given a second chance to redeem himself. It is set in a tough puerto rican neighbourhood where Carlito the 'legend' returns to the streets after being freed from prison where his reputation follows him. The plot is nothing disimilar from previous gangster films, but Pacino's peformance is definateley one of his bests. He is a street Wise gangster, trying desperatley hard to play it straight. Carlito's Way is exciting, emotive, romantic and full of action. The thing that mainly makes Carlito's Way stand out from the many other gangster movies is its execution, its brilliantly shot and captures the culture and atmosphere excellently. An absolute must see ...
Advantages: Excellent acting from a cast offering little aside from Sean Penn and Pacino Disadvantages: Not everyone's cup of tea but anyone with any time for gangster movies must see this one
Carlito?sway is a great alternative gangster film, offering what might believably be real insight into the mind of a gangster who gets out of jail after serving only 5 years of a 30 year sentence, not at least due to the effortless work of his long-time friend and lawyer. Said lawyer is straying far too near to the underworld himself these days though, and between inhaling half of Bolivia nasally and ripping the wrong people off trouble is bound to ensue. The film ends most intriguingly, and is one of those that will cause argument as to what the final outcome actually is supposed to be. Pacino is pure brilliance, and the rest of the cast do as well as they can to keep up. ...
power from the streets in the modern drug world, that Carlito views as an insignificant pumped up youth and treats him accordingly. Little does he know, Benito is his biggest threat and represents the small crack in the beginning of the rest of Benito's life...

A full-bodied 138 minutes of film, every role powerful and with amazing direction from Brian De Palma. You feel the tension and follow every move eager to know what happens next...
This is one of the few Al Pacino movies I have actually bought - although I love him as an actor, I find it hard to buy any DVD's unless I know the film is really a classic. I also bought Heat and Serpico for the same reasons, although Carlitos' Way is still top of the 3.
You won't regret watching this if you like good acting and a good storyline - I promise! ...
