Advantages: Nowhere else like it on earth! Disadvantages: Not a great choice of accommodation
...The DeadSea is amazing! We stayed for two nights at the Ein Gedi youth hostel and it was fantastic. You really can read a newspaper as you float in the DeadSea. The oxygen level is much higher than the rest of the year (I was told between 8 and 10 percent higher). There are interesting sites to see, such as Masada and Qumran (where the DeadSea Scrolls were found.) Sunbathing is fun, with huge free parasols at Ein Gedi. But don’t try to drink the water or let it get in your eyes – it really stings! So close to Jordan that, when I was sitting on the beach of Ein Gedi, my mobile phone thought it was in Jordan!...

Advantages: the only place to stay in Cannes Disadvantages: Probably not the most family friendly if your children aren't used to hotels.
...Le Carlton is an institution in Cannes! It is an amazing hotel with history back to the beginning of the 1900's. It was occupied by the Germans during the second world war. The two points on either side of the hotel were shaped after a woman's breasts. Just this information shows you that it is a hotel of immense history and character. The staff are the highest paid hotel staff in Cannes and possibly the Cote d'Azur and it shows in the quality of service. For a full experience try to get a room overlooking the front of the hotel, although the side rooms are larger and some do have partial sea views. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel over anyother in the area....

Advantages: An unusual experience, good for the skin Disadvantages: A long walk, the salty water may sting after a while
...levels, as such there are no living creatures in the water. The salt levels are so high that you cannot immerse yourself face down in the sea and can only lie on your back.
~The Resort~
I arrived at the DeadSea Resort of Ein Gedi on a tour coach, but there seemed to be lots of parking for cars. The resort we went to had good changing facilities with plenty of lockers and showers as well as a nice restaurant and a shop for all the products you can buy to take home and sample the delights of the DeadSea.
Originally the resorts were built on the shores of the sea, but as the level is dropping fast it is now a long way from the edge of the sea. In 2000 I could just make out the water edge and the bathers from the restaurant balcony. There is a track leading to the sea, so you have a long walk or you can wait in line and take the little land...

Firstly the photos of the hotel and room are quite deceptive; the Carlton Grand Canal Hotel is a crummy looking hotel with tiny rooms but apparently this is to be expected in Venice- it is also useful to note that there are many dilapidated looking... more
