At the time of writing I am 39 years old and have been on 10 cruises, 4 of which travelling alone.

What do I like in a cruise?
Varied entertainment
Great shows
Fine (and formal) dining
The ability to dress up (black tie nights)
The ability to dress down
Meeting people
Friendly & efficient staff
Comfortable & exciting ships

In my opinion, Carnival are one of the mid-budget cruise operators and attract a wide variety of people. Perhaps not for travellers more mature in age, Carnival offer a great cruise experience with some great ships.

Entertainment is first class, with all ships featuring a big band style show band and in the main, live music for the shows, which feature imaginative productions performed by great singers and dancers. Ships differ of course but most have jazz groups performing regularly, plus classical musicians, pianists and other easy listening music with a reggae band on the main sun deck (a little loud and with limtied repertoire I admit).
The Carnival Victory also featured a seperate jazz bar and a karaoke bar featuring a talented rotating pianist / singer.

The Carnival Legend was much more tastefully decorated than the disappointing Costa Atlantica (same ship design) though the Sensation was decked out in an awful gaudy purple interior trim which felt as though you were in a games arcade.

The choice of food on Carnival is outstanding with 24 hour pizza bar (it is biased towards the Americans) offering excellent pizzas, and lunch times offer a wide range of cuisine including freshly made sandwiches and Chinese food always on offer plus a wide variety of other nationalities on offer.

The formal dining is also very good, but not to the high standard of NCL, Celebrity or some of the other operators. However, the staff are very accomodating with the exception of the Maitre'Ds on the three cruises I have been on (On the last cruise, I was allocated a table by myself and the Maitre'D refused to do anything about it!),

Generally I love cruising with Carnival. I feel totally comfortable on board, particularly as a single traveler. I always make friends and enjoy the formal nghts, which the American's love to exploit. I have also cruised several times with Costa, Carnival's parent company but today they are put to shame by Carnival's standards.

Not for everyone, but I will continue to book with Carnival for the variety of entertainment, the great ships and tremendous welcoming feeling offered by the majority of staff. Pricing is attractive but Carnival still manage to attract a reasonably respectable clientel.

Hello and welcome to Ciao - I normally cruise with P&O or Cunard but cruising is the best holiday ever. Regards Lexy

I've been on a couple of cruises, don't think I'd like to go alone though. Pat.t
