This small museum, owned by Peter Nelson, is situated in the centre of Keswick, behind the Royal Oak pub, in the heart of the Lake District. It is home to many beautifully restored vehicles which have appeared in television shows and films. The place is open most of the year, varying on the season. The cost of admission when I visited was £4.00 for an adult and £3.00 for a child, (prices may change). It cost me £14.00 for my visit, which was not too bad considering the museum was not as small as it looks from the outside.
It opened in 1989 to the public, but was officially opened 1990 by a Gerry Anderson and houses his creation, Lady Pennelope's pink Rolls Royce. Other cars in the museum include…. The A-Team van, The Munsters mobile, KITT from knightrider, The Delorean from Back to the future, James Bonds Aston Martin and other Bonds movie cars The Batmobile Tom Sellicks Ferrari from Magnum One of the Reliant Robins from 'Only fools and horses, (as there were thirteen made) Fred Flintstones foot powered vehicle The Model T from Laurel and Hardy and other cars and motor cycles. There was also a life size Dalek for all you Doctor Who fans. (As the display changes from time to time the vehicles mentioned may not be there when you visit.) There are also other things to see and do, such as autographs of the stars and a small selection of children's rides.
Most of the cars can be hired for promotions/functions for a fee, starting from £500 per day.
As with all museums there is a gift shop tempting you to spend your money before you leave, casting your eyes over the postcards and pictures on display. You can also have your photograph taken whilst sitting in a display model, for a small fee.
If you do find yourself in Keswick with an hour to spare then the museum is worth a visit. It is easy to find, being right next to the large car park, behind the Royal Oak as you drive into Keswick from Windermere. The couch depot is a stone throw away across the town centre.
