Advantages: Wonderful city with loads to see and do. Disadvantages: Can get hot and crowded in summer. Watch your valuables!
...A very impressive building, which is usually pointed out during tours of the city.
CASACALVET - One of Gaudi's most traditional pieces and the one that he received his only bit of admiration from the City when it was built! Whereas most of Gaudi's buidings were considered to be "strange" and were a bit unpopular, this building was liked instantly and bought Gaudi the respect he deserved!
There's more to Barcelona than Gaudi though! There are loads more monuments to see and much more to do. There are too many places to mention, but here is a selection:
GOTHIC CATHEDRAL - This is located, quite obviously, in the Gothic Quarter of the City. This is a very impressive building, built between 1298 and 1450. The Gothic Quarter itself is well worth a look, although make sure you keep track of where you are. It's very easy to get lost because...

Advantages: A truly atmospheric dining experience Disadvantages: Its not next door to me
...I love Barcelona and I love the Four Cats (Els Quatre Gats) restaurant. I usually go to Barcelona about three times a year for long weekends and I always make a point of dining at the four cats on Sunday evenings. They have a website (can't give it out here but go to google) where you can either email for a reservation or get the telephone number.
The atmosphere, live piano music and decorations are fantastic, even the toilet is a must see. The Four Cats was designed by Puig Cadafalch, a contemporary of Gaudi, in neo-gothic style and was a meeting place for famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Miguel Utrillo and Ramón Casas. In Spanish 'Four Cats' means 'a few unimportant persons'.

Advantages: excellent, convienient location right on la Ramblas Disadvantages: there werent any for me!
...fine, on the small size! I would definitely go back to the hotel, and happily recomend it.
getting there - we got cheap flights from Bournemouth with Ryanair (£26.50, + 18 ish euros for a return ticket on Barcelona Bus from Girona airport right into the city to the bus station - and back).
Barcelona is one of my favourite cities - so full of life & variety yet i think it caters for all tastes - its got the beach, the Olympic stadium, Art & Gaudi & Dali, tango, tapas & tons more. My favs: palau de la musica - stunning, Bar Pastis - tango nights tues & thurs, Casa Mila (La Pedrera) - gaudi's chimneys so magical if you get as dusk is just coming (check opening times!).
Just writing this, I know now, I will be going back & staying again at Lloret - Barcelona is my fix & i want more. Hope you enjoy it too....
