My sister has been living in Toronto, Canada, for a few years, and I had the chance to visit her twice. We went to very beautiful places while I was there, but one of my favourites is this one, Casa Loma (the Spanish translation of "The house on the hill").

Toronto is a hugh city but it's quite easy to find one's way there. There are two main streets: Bloor (it goes from East to West) and Yonge (from North to South), and all the other streets are parallel or perpendicular to both of them.
Casa Loma is at Austin Terrace, just at the intersection of Davenport Rd. and Spadina Ave. It's very close to downtown. The best way to get there is by bus, by tube or by streetcar. There is a parking at the grounds of the castle, but it's not worthwhile getting there by car.

Casa Loma is very close to the town centre, which is full of huge buildings, so it's really surprising to find a castle there. Anyhow, I recommend the visit. :-)
Advantages: Somewhere to go if it is wet Disadvantages: Not a lot to see
...we decided to go to Casa Loma. Getting there was no problem as we had previously purchased tickets for the open top bus tour which were valid for a week. The tickets can be purchased at several locations including outside the main railway station.
Casa Loma itself is an old mansion, built in a very idiosyncratic style by a wealthy businessman who was continuously developing and changing it. There is a restaurant in the basement serving a wide variety of sandwiches and larger meals.
Not a great place to visit in my view, but others may find the historical aspects interesting, and it was certainly well presented, with helpful staff.
Cost to get in is around £5 each for adults - not sure about child prices. ...

CASALOMACasaLoma is Toronto's folly. Located at 1 Austin Terrace, it is just a few minutes walk up the hill from the Dupont subway station.
This is a huge, turreted mansion built by Toronto tycoon Sir Henry Pellatt between 1911 and 1914. It cost $3 million to build, an enormous sum at the time. However, due to reckless business dealings, he lived there only until 1923, when he was declared bankrupt.
An audiocassette tour is included. There is a numbered route through the house. When you get to the study, there are two secret passages that can be explored. There are also rumors of ghosts!
The tour also includes the garden and stables.
CasaLoma needs to be seen to be believed. No description can do it justice.
CasaLoma is open daily 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Last admission: 4:00 p.m.) It is closed Christmas ...
If you are only in Toronto for a short time there are three absolute musts. Firstly visit CasaLoma - it looks like a medieval castle set on the top of a hill. It was built by the first man to harness the power of Niagara Falls but he ran out of money before it was completed and thankfully the Toronto council are now maintaining the property and running excellent tours. For £5 you can wander 'til your hearts content through the beauty of CasaLoma listening to the excellent commentary on the headsets - an afternoon well spent.
Another place is the Vodka bar at the Panorama Restaurant in the MetLife building - the view is superb, the vodka is ice cold and the coats (to keep you warm) are lovely! In the restaurant have the Hot Rock dish - its delicious and so much fun.
Finally - eat chinese in Spring Rolls on Yonge - you'll need ...

Advantages: Great city and sights, very friendly people Disadvantages: Very cold, burritos
by the senior officer of the security firm, I was allowed to leave without the police getting involved ? boy was I glad I had the receipt for the gloves!
On my return to the hotel I found that my shopping had been largely unnecessary, as my suitcase with all my winter clothes had finally arrived.
Visiting the impressive sights of Toronto like the CN Tower, the SkyDome, CasaLoma et al are all vivid memories of my stay and highly reommended, but perhaps the memorable place I was to visit in the whole of my stay will not be seen in any tourist information literature. The place was a certain fast food diner on Yonge Street, and the reason for it making a greater impression on me than all of the usual attractions was the dodgy burrito I ate there. The said burrito gave me food poisoning and kept me indoors for twenty-four hours. My day ...
