Advantages: A five-star stay? Disadvantages: ?with just three-star facilities
simplicity often trumps ritzy ostentation. Attentive service matters, but nothing is nastier than the kind of smarmy obsequiousness that always seems to mask a sneer. And so on. Maybe it's simply down to that indefinable essence known as character or personality.
These inconsequential musings are prompted by my trying to pinpoint what it was about the CasaSan Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer.
* Location *
The CasaSan Blas is situated just a few minutes' walk from Cusco's Plaza de Armas (central square), and is therefore convenient for all the main sights of the ancient Inca capital, such as the Qorikancha (Sun Temple), the Cathedral ...
Advantages: Good night life, relaxed. Disadvantages: Crime, not much culture.
I lived In Costa Rica for 6 years and I spent most of my time in the capital, Sanjose, which is what I am writing about now.
The city itslef is quite small for a capital city but it makes it easyto navigate (up to a point!!). SanJose is located right in the middle of the country in what is called the 'central valley' although it isn't actually a valley.
The airport is in the north west of the city, actually outside SanJose.
Actually most of the decent hotels are outside the center too.
I cannot really recommend and as I have not really used one but I did stay in the Hampton Inn once and it was fine.
Taxis
Use them, they are cheap.
A 30 minute drive could set you back the enourmous cost of £1.20!!
They are red with a yellow triangle on the door. They are official but there are pirates around. Don't use them is my ...
Advantages: Beautiful Grounds Disadvantages: Certain privately held condos
Casadel Mar is a gorgeous small resort. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Our unit La Perle 304 which is privately owned and managed, was a disappointment. When we arrived, there were hundreds of ants on the kitchen counter. The apartment sized refrigerator was inadequate unless you plan to use it only for drinks. The freezer wasn't cold enough to make ice nor large enough for anything except 3 water bottles. The toilet was cracked and leaking resulting in a wet bathroom floor for the entire stay. The leak caused the water to run off and on all day and all night. Judging by the corrosion around the floor, it had been leaking for some time. The beds were very hard causing sore hips in the morning. The TV in the bedroom was nonfunctional. This is not a condo to enjoy a restful getaway. I assume that other condos in this resort are ...
