of the original minaret. It's hardly York Minster, but it's interesting enough and there are quite a few architectural oddities to wonder at.
Just a little further on is the Museo de la Ciudad.
Housed in an old palace, the museum opened in 1996 and presents a history of Carmona from 3,000Bc until the present. Exhibits range from archaeological finds uncovered in the immediate area, to the development of the walled city from Roman times through the medieval period and beyond.
It has quite a large collection of artifacts and displays and gives an excellent explanation of the life and growth of the town. For a very reasonable ? 2, it's an enjoyable and educational way to spend a couple of hours during the siesta when most everything else is closed.
There's not really a lot more to the old town - at least not in the form of attractions ...

Carmona is a town with a very long history and is situated about 30km east of Seville. It lies astride the NIV Seville-Cordoba highway so the town is very easy to find.

The streets are so tight, it could be quite hair-raising - I don't have much hair so I was alright.
When we eventually cleared the claustrophobic streets, we found ourselves at one of the highest points of the town with a car ...

When planning a recent trip touring Andalucia I did quite a bit of research on finding suitable hotels. Various things are important to us: location, comfort, amenities and last, but certainly not least, expense.
In the course of this research I came across a site called bancotel.com, a Spanish travel agency. They sell 'cheque-books' which can be exchanged for various travel-related deals. To cut a long story short, I managed to book a total of 10 nights at various hotels with all of them costing only ? 50 plus tax.
One of the hotels we booked was the ALCAZAR de la REINA in Carmona.
